Kitsune casually strolled over to a nearby fruit stand and purchased a Nectarine, happily conversing with the shop keeper all the while. She handed him the money, and, as she bit into the juicy fruit and turned to leave, he shouted out,
"Hey!!"
Kitsune whirled around and stared at him inquisitively.
".........yes...?" she asked.
"You didn't say 'thank you'!!" the boy shouted again.
Kitsune chuckled.
"Oh, I'm sorry, thank--"
"OHHHHH, NO!! IT'S TOO LATE NOW!!" the boy interrupted.
Kitsune, with wide eyes, stood frozen in place.
"I'm sorr-"
"DON'T APOLOGIZE!!!"
Kitsune was dumbfounded. The boy ripped off his apron, threw it on the counter of the stand, and stomped over to her until their noses touched. While he talked through gritted teeth, he repeatedly jabbed her in the stomach with his finger.
"Haven't your parents taught you to say 'thank you' after someone helps you?!"
Kitsune blinked.
"Well, yeah, but--"
"BUT NOTHIN, GIRLY!!!"
Kitsune's eyes were about to pop out of her sockets. This guy was off his rocker!! She backed away a bit to gain a little elbow room, but it was a futile attempt, for the boy just scooted closer to up his authority. She held her hands out in front of her to try to calm him down, but he just grit his teeth back and forth. The loud grinding was really annoying her. After a very long, awkward pause, she spoke calmly.
"Listen, sir, I don't know what kind of beef you have with me, but if you perform this with all of your customers, then you're the one in the wrong."
She took a deep breath and stared at the boy. He looked like a total mess. He grit his teeth one more time and jabbed her in the stomach again.
"You'll be sorry......" he growled, then stomped away.
Funny thing is, he didn't even stop at his fruit stand. He just kept on walking down the rocky pathway. Kitsune took a moment to soak that all in, then cleared her throat. She had quite the story to tell her mom.~~~
