The train zoomed past everything making the scenery a big blur. A woman sat staring out the window trying to figure out what was zooming past her. A basket sat on her lap. It was a plain wicker basket with a nice handle perched on top. A piece of cloth lay on top covering whatever was inside, and every once in a while the cloth would move like something was inside it.
Across the aisle a little boy was watching the lady. He thought that she was behaving oddly for a grownup, but he was more interested in the basket. He sat there looking at the basket wondering what could be inside.
Finally the lady stopped looking out the window. She looked down at her basket and lifted the cloth. A little creature's head popped out from under the cloth.
The little boy jumped in surprise. He had never seen an animal like it. It had huge, gray eyes and ears that looked like cut funnels.
He sat there staring at the creature while the woman pet it and talk to it. It purred and smiled clearly happy. He moved across the aisle and sat in the seat next to the lady.
" What kind of animal is that." the little boy said with wonder. The woman looked at the boy with surprise.
"You can see him?" She asked in disbelief.
" 'Course I can. Why wouldn't I be able too?"He asked with a questioning look on his face.
"You must have magic in you." she said almost to herself.
"Magic? Like wizards and witches?"
"Not exactly." she said "Magic gives you the ability to see and do things that others can't."
"Really?" the boy said with excitement.
"Yeah." She said looking at the boy with a smile.
"Nathen, it's time to get off." Nathen turned around to see his mother standing there. Then saw the lady."Who's this?"
"I'm Bethilda Baggets." she said holding out her hand.
"Oh." She said she said shaking Bethilda's hand.
"I was just showing him some things that I bought."She said with a smile. "Maybe we'll see each other again."
"Okay well bye." Nathen said and walked off the train with his mother.
