It is on a bleak sunday afternoon muggy and clogged up with rain when you hear a soft 'tap' at the door.
It's curious, because it's only one knock -- not a 'tap tap tap' but a simple 'tap', like the person behind the door would almost want it to go unnoticed. For anyone else, it probably would go undetected; but with your ears, you can catch anything.
With a sigh you put down your book and slip back into your bunny slippers, shuffling towards the door without much hurry. It's rainy and along with the fact you aren't looking all that great, you can't find yourself to care if the stranger behind the door leaves early.
You turn the doorknob and swing it open to the second see-through door, the one that is locked properly in case your visitor is hostile. You're kind of a paranoid guy, and don't like taking chances. Chances leave room for error, and you hate error.
However you are glad to find that you recognize the face of the girl behind the door. She has a broad grin on her face despite the fact her multicolored hair is damp and sticking to her forehead underneath the hat she has on. You roll your eyes as she gives a bright wave.
She's sopping wet.
"What did I tell you about checking weather reports, Gina?" You say as you unlock the second door, welcoming her in with a little wave of your arm. She giggles at the motion and skips in, throwing her stuff on the ground like it's her home. With all the things that she's left here, it practically is her home.
"Be sure to bring rations if you get stuck in a snowstorm?" Is her cheery reply, following your lead to the bathroom down the hall. As you get a towel for her you give a little tired sigh.
"That's when you're going skiing." You correct lightly, draping the towel over her head. Gina gives a little huff and a dismissive wave, not even bothering to reach up to move the towel at all. It's clear she wants you to do it, and you reach over with a roll of your eyes but no complaint.
"Reeally Ian, there is basically no difference!" She exclaims, swinging her hands impatiently as you dry out her hair. "Restocked ya' tea?"
You give a little nod, removing the towel from Gina's head. It's damp as hell from Gina's ridiculously long hair, but now the only thing sopping wet about the short girl is her clothing.
"I'll go boil some. Go change." You order, tilting your head towards the staircase with a little nod. Gina pouts, huffing and stomping one foot as she curls her small hands into fists.
"You never let me boil the tea!" Even as she complains she begins to move towards the staircase, a rather sour expression on her face. You give a little roll of your eyes, knowing that Gina cares less than she pretends to.
"Yeah, and my kitchen has never been destroyed. I don't know about you, but I think there is a link."
In an instant a soggy hat collides into your face, pattering footsteps hurrying up the stairs and a bout of girlish laughter fading out with an exclaimed 'jerk!' followed afterwards.
You smile despite yourself, peeling off the hat from your face only to be cut off by a sneeze.
s**t.
