Many people have started looking for happiness, without fully understanding what it is that they are looking for. They begin with some ideal to gain their ends and find the ends have nothing to do with the ideal they sought. They miss the target because they were aiming at the wrong place to begin with. They shoot and shoot, and only find themselves exhausted. They do not stop to realize that, if you do not know what you are to be shooting at, it is rather hard to hit the target at all. We find the best way to a city is by following its path, and to a target is by knowing its patterns.

Contentment is step one being fine with what you have. Joy is step two a product of the Holy Spirit, found within this explainable ability to sing in the troubles. But let me ask you, how can we gain joy without hope in which to base such joy? If we cannot hope in the future, how can we be joyful in the pains of our present? Or those of our past? If we cannot have Joy, then how can we have any sort of comfort in our life through our pains? And if we can't have Joy, how can we be content with the pain and suffering we face? And without any of these, how can we find any happiness?

By living perfect lives? Well we have tried that and found perfect lives contain hope, joy and contentment, and if you are not content with what you have, you find you are not happy with anything. Then find that joy shortly follows to die down as we cannot find anything sacred in what we have. Then as these disappear we find also, that we have no hope in anything at all, because nothing we have is sacred. But then we find this even fails, when we lose those things we held sacred, they are not lasting, and cannot be leaned on. They are things that are here and gone, not to last.

So happiness is something only attainable through the hope we have in Christ towards salvation, and through this God gifts us with Joy, and teaches us to be content. What good is this without Faith? What use is it without Love?
