How are your grades academically, overall? How are they in English alone? Are you satisfied? Do you try your hardest?(Please be honest here.) If not, why?
Throughout school, I had mediocre grades (with an exception in Mandarin Chinese, Math and English). They were decent, but I missed a lot of school due to orchestra, and a lot of assignments, and it was always hard for me to catch up. I made high C’s through A’s. I failed Biology and most of my foreign languages, but that’s another story. Oh, and Chemistry, almost lost that one.
I didn’t really try my hardest though. I loved school, but orchestra was my life. That was all I ever thought about went I went to school, and my grades reflected it.
My English grades were astounding. I had a 100 in my Junior class because the entire class was mostly writing assignments. I had lucked out, and my teach had had a heart attack, triple bypass surgery, than spent the whole year until the last month recuperating from home. She would assign the sub some journals or something, a writing assignment, and then grade them from home.
What a better year for me?
I was in my role playing prime, and I could finally use all that practice and writing that I had done over the years for something useful! And useful it was. I breezed through my assignments. I identified with character better than ever before, and even drew comparisons between mine and more famous ones. Noticing conflict and spotting context clues was easier, I had no problem talking about the things in the Greats Gatsby, in fact, I wanted nothing more than to DO that. I wanted to compare things from it to my stuff.
Writing my stories with other people helped me focus in my own English class.
