I woke up in a cold sweat, my arm damp. I simply stared at the bandage and knew the cuts had bled through. Even in the dark I could distinctively make out the shape of my brother on the bed across the room, he was dead asleep. 'Stupid jackass...' I thought as he stirred and smiled in his slumber.
I slipped out of my bed, the vision still clear in my mind, and walked to the bathroom. I passed my mother and father's bedroom, they were sound asleep as well, and I stopped in front of my sisters room. Alexis was the only person in this house I actually cared about and loved. I rubbed my bandaged arm and continued my way to the bathroom, as I grabbed the handle an image forced its way through my mind.
My house was ablaze, as well as my entire neighborhood. I was running through the house, but i couldn't find anyone. I looked up as a rafter came down on me and, FLASH, I was back to standing in front of the bathroom.
"What the hell?" I murmured as i opened the door. I quietly undid my bandage once i shut the door, and i tried to shove that image out of my mind. As I finished re-wrapping my arm I heard a door open on the other side of the house, but i dismissed it quickly. I slipped out of the bathroom and ran right into my father. Fear streaked its way across my face as he glanced down at my arm and then back at my face.
Now, I was always the reject child out of the three, Kenneth, Alexis and me, which was ironic since Kenneth and I were twins, but I wasn't known about until birth. The ultrasounds never picked up a second baby, just Kenneth. When he was born my mother, Michelle, held Kenneth for about twenty minutes before the doctors declared she was going into labor once more. A miracle baby, that's what the doctors called me.
"Hell are you doin' awake Jamie?" My father said, "Its four in the morning go back to sleep."
"Sorry sir," I replied, my voice quiet, and my head bowed low. "I had to use the restroom..."
He shifted his gaze towards his room once and then nodded to me. He stepped around me and walked into the bathroom. He closed the door, glancing back at me as he did so. I slowly walked back towards my room, glancing at Alexis's door as I passed it. I let out a sigh of relief that he hadn't asked about the bandages and made my way to my room as quietly as possible. I stepped into my room with a faint smile, but that quickly faded when I heard a smug voice cut through the silent night.
"And how does that make you feel...That he doesn't even care about your injury....?" My brother sneered from the futon mattress he slept on. I looked down at him and was half tempted to kick him, but i ignored it as I climbed into my own bed, a futon mattress as well. "What. You have nothing to say?" Kenneth said as he sat up quickly. It was pretty dark so I couldn't quite make out the expression on his face, but quickly I found out as a pillow hit me in the face. I angrily grabbed the pillow up off the ground, and threw it at Ken, missing him barely. I slammed my head down on my own pillow and turned away from my idiotic brother.
