Mineko followed cautiously behind Kai, and asked a somewhat obvious question, "Why haven't people come here?"
"..."
"Kai?"
"...It's a secret."
Mineko made a confused face and prodded on, "What do you mean, 'a secret'? Why can't I know? I mean, if you're going to go through the trouble to take me here anyway..." Kai cut in, "This is something you have to figure out through reason rather than revelation."
Mineko knew through school that reason was when you figured something out on your own, and revelation was when someone else... Well... Revealed it to you. She sighed. It seemed she wasn't going to get anything out of him. They walked through corridors and hallways, and the temple seemed to lead deeper and deeper into the ground.
The further they went, the more water seemed to be around. First there seemed to be streams and small ponds, with rock paths going through. It also seemed to get dark, but still Mineko could see. Even as she was taking in the sights, though, her mind seemed still able to wander.
Mineko thought back to the kiss, and didn't really know what she was thinking as it replayed in her head. Of course, she relayed these thoughts aloud, "Oh no... What am I thinking??" she muttered to herself.
Kai took into account that Mineko had pretty much forgotten he was there, and snapped her back to reality. He asked, "What are you talking about?" and gave a light squeeze to the hand he guided her with. For some reason blushing, Mineko made a bit of a scene in a frantic manner. "Oh, I uh... It's umm... Nothing--! Nothing at all~! Don't mind me!" In a perfectly awkward manner, she gave a laugh that seemed far too uneasy.
Mineko didn't want Kai to know she was thinking about him, and hadn't always been the smoothest talker, so that was how things came about for her sometimes. Kai raised an eyebrow, and stopped walking. Looking her in the eye, he asked again, "What are you talking about?"
Mineko shook her head. "Nothing..." She said, her voice more steady this time. Kai walked closer. With a raised eyebrow, he said, "You know you can tell me anything... Right?" Mineko nodded. He stepped a little closer still, and put a hand to her cheek.
Leaning in, his lips were about an inch from hers when-- Mineko woke up. Disoriented, she looked about. She was being carried again by Kai.
"Hnnn...? What happened?" She asked, dreamily. Kai looked down at her and said, "Well... Welcome back. You passed out again as we were coming in." Mineko blinked and realized she was dreaming up the whole situation... Even when he...
Mineko blushed, and Kai blinked. He felt her forehead with his handa, and commented, "You're burning up again like when you were sleeping. Are you alright?"
Mineko said, "Y-yeah. It's... Just... Human nature." She picked something Kai wouldn't know as much about, hoping she could cover her trail. As she looked about, the areas seemed to look more like a place of imprisonment. She asked, "Wait... Where are we going?"
Kai was quiet a moment before answering, "...To find Renisa."
Unable to find words to respond, Mineko stayed quiet. As they kept walking, she found that they started passing... Things. Creatures. Each different shapes and sizes, some with scales, some with fur, some with both and all of different colors.
As they went further and further down into the dungeon, each level contained more and more human-like creatures. Finally, they started passing different colors of the same kind of demon that Kai was and Ginek, Renisa, and Mineko herself turned out to be.
Mineko looked at each one carefully, and began to recognize a few. She couldn't place the name, but they rang bells in the back of her mind. With a sigh, Mineko hoped they would find Renisa soon.
