Chapter 5: A New Realm
Without really even looking at Mineko, Kai took her hand, and led the way. Mineko blushed just a little, being the shy girl that she was, or rather... Used to be. They walked through the town around the mansion, until they were in an area that triggered Mineko's memory. The only thing she remembered though, was that the area was dangerous. Kai gripped her hand a little tighter, and Mineko was on her guard.
Within minutes of that, a burly hand grabbed Mineko by the shoulder. It was joined by a sly, and intimidating voice, "Well... What do we have here?" Mineko nearly jumped, startled by the sudden contact. It was another demon. He turned Mineko around to face him, and moved his hand from her shoulder to her left cheek. Her right hand was still connected to Kai.
Kai turned and responded to the voice for Mineko, "You have no business with her." The demon didn't look away from Mineko as he said, "Oh don't I? Miss, you're quite... Lovely. I'd like it for you to accompany me... Alone." Mineko's eyes widened a little, the words of this man triggering a little more memory.
She remembered that, she didn't like to be around this man. Mineko managed to weakly refuse, "I'm sorry, but... I'm afraid that I'm not available." She squeezed Kai's hand, and the man noticed that they were linked. He removed his hand from her face, and said, "Ah, I see..." His voice seemed somewhat mad, or perhaps frustrated. He looked at Kai, "So she's yours then. Show me, prove your story." He pushed Mineko into Kai, who caught her. The demon instructed, "Kiss her. Then I'll believe you." Mineko didn't look at Kai, still trying to process what that demon had just suggested, no, demanded. Kai put his arm around Mineko, making her face him. He used his other hand, guiding Mineko's face to look at him.
Mineko was scared. She really wasn't sure what to think of Kai yet. She looked at him like a deer caught in the headlights of a car. She'd never really willingy or on purpose kissed a boy. Other than her father of course, but even those were just little pecks on occasions. Kai leaned down, and kissed Mineko. Not only that, but Mineko could feel that he meant it. She shut her eyes, and kissed back. After a few seconds, the other demon said, "Alright that's enough. I believe you."
Oddly enough, Kai was the first one to pull back away. Mineko blushed.
The demon walked away, grumbling something about being rejected again, or how tired he was of this. Mineko was confused, yet again, and was a little hesitent to ask, "Kai, what was with that demon? Why did he want you to prove..." Mineko stopped, and thought for a moment. Was there really anything for Kai to prove? What disturbed her still above all was that she felt like she'd forgotten something. Something immensely important. She was snapped back to reality by Kai's response, "Being single or thought of as such is dangerous around here. This area of town is just filled with those damn incubi... I couldn't let one of them..." He stopped, turning a little red.
Mineko persisted, "What? What would they do?" Mineko had no idea what the word incubus meant, and therefore no idea what the plural form, incubi meant. Kai didn't answer. She tugged on Kai's sleeve, "Hey! Tell me!" Kai grabbed Mineko's hand, and continued to walk towards their destination. Mineko pulled at her hand, and said, "Kai, what were you going to say?!" He hesitated, sighed, and then said, "Its... Well... Indecent." Hint taken. Mineko knew exactly what he meant, and turned red. She walked closer to Kai, not wanting to have to face another demon like the previous one. She looked up, and noticed that they were approaching a building.
By now they were far out of town. The area looked abandoned. In any case, Mineko asked, "Hey Kai, where are we?" He replied, "It's a temple. People haven't come here in... A really long time."
