Chapter 28- The Art of Color

I stared wide eyed at the sight in front of me. Mom was standing there, her face having a smile, and yet a frown. I felt some tears run my face as I stood up, running to mom. Maya ran into us, letting out a sob. It has been four long years since we last saw mom, our real mom.

"Shh girls, it's okay" she patted our heads, giving us both a hug.

"Are you okay?" I asked through my sobs

"I'm completely fine, don't worry" she spoke, rubbing our backs. This always somehow made us feel better

I nodded once as we stayed like this for a while as Maya and I let our tears out into our mom's dark dress, until we were only left with sniffling. Mom took a step away from us, inspecting our faces.

"You have both grown so much, look how pretty you two are" She pulled us into another hug

"You haven't changed at all" Maya spoke quietly, letting out a soft laugh.

Dad was suddenly behind mom, giving us a soft smile.

"We should go now" Jason and Lin spoke at the same time, making Maya and I look at them oddly.

I looked back at mom, who gave us a reassuring smile. Our dad nodded once as I let go of mom, turning towards Lin.

"How are you feeling?" I asked kneeling down next to him, wiping my eyes.

"A lot better, thanks to your sister." I looked at Maya who was now helping Jason up. I nodded.

"Yeah, she's amazing with healing powers" I mumbled, now helping him to stand.

Lin stood up, as we all began walking to the large castle doors. We walked through the hallways in dead silence, as if we all didn't know each other. I almost wanted to scream something, to break the dreadful silence. I took a slight pause as something hit me.

"Hey Maya, why are their no soldiers around?"

"Oh, maybe news spreads fast?"She glanced at me

"But then wouldn't they come attack us or something?"I looked back at her

"With this family? Hahaha" She laughed, causing me to roll my eyes, a big grin spreading across my face.

We reached the exit, as the same wind that called for us to be free ran past us, letting me inhale the sent. Lin gave me a weird look, but I shook my head, still smiling. We walked into the forest, carefully stepping over the logs and branches. I heard mom and dad whispering to each other, probably catching up on years of not actually seeing or loving one another. We were at least in the middle of the forest, as we came to a stop, each of us sitting down in our own area. I leaned on Lin's shoulder as I closed my eyes. Our family was finally whole again. I opened my eyes, turning to look at Lin with a sad face.

"I'm sorry" I looked into his colorless eyes

"What for?" he looked at me, with much of the same stare

"..Your parents.." I dragged my eyes away from his, looking at the ground

"Don't be sorry for that, he was an a**" he turned my head to face him, kissing me on my lips.

I smiled, wrapping my arms around him, kissing him back. I broke the kiss off a few seconds after, taking a breath. Lin placed his forehead agenst mine, my face getting hot. We stayed like this in silence, although it wasn't an awkward silence. It was a silence that gave us the time to appreciate having each other.

"I love you" he mumbled

"I love you too" I mumbled back to him, putting my lips onto his.

He broke off after a few seconds, staring at me as if he had some sort of important question. I made marks in the dirt, spelling out my name in a cursive writing. I put a heart after my name, putting an L into the heart. Lin looked at me oddly for a second, but I stuck my tongue out at him, rubbing away my name with my hand.

"I have something to ask you.." He began speaking, as I looked at him

"I'm listening" I replied, now drawing a heart in the dirt

"I wanted to know if you would.. would.." he cut himself off, his face going a bit darker. Was he blushing?

"If I would what?" I questioned, his face going darker again.

"If you would marr--" He was cut off as there was a loud stomping coming next to us. I looked up at the tall figure, to see it was dad.

"Your mom called for you" He looked at me, then looked down suspiciously at Lin. I looked between them for a few seconds, feeling the tension.

"Okay.. uh where is she?" I broke the tension, standing up.

"This way" he took his eyes off Lin, walking back in the direction he came in, me following him.

We made it to where mom and dad were sitting, with Maya and Jason already there. I looked at her for a second in confusion, but she just smiled back to me. Dad sat next to mom as I hugged her. It felt surreal to have mom here. I then sat next to Maya, Lin sitting next to Jason. Mom turned to face us, giving a huge smile. What was going on? I looked at Maya with a sketchy look, but she rolled her eyes, looking at mom.

"What's going on?"I asked Maya, still looking at her

"You idiot. Mom is giving us back our sight!"I stared at her for a second, then at mom. We were going to see in color again? I felt like crying at the thought.

"Are you girls ready?" Mom asked, Maya and I nodding eagerly.

She started whispering the same spell that she began four years ago, bringing back the memories. I took a breath, leaning my head agenst Maya. We were finally going to see in color again.

"I can't wait to see Lin's eye and hair color!" I thought to Maya, getting another roll of the eyes.

"You freak" she simply replied, looking at Jason.

"Oh common. I know you want to see Jason's eye and hair color too." I taunted

"Okay, and?" she spoke as I paused for a second

"Uh.. I love you?" I let out a laugh, getting a few weird stares.

I heard Jason and Lin talking about something, although their voices were too low to understand a word that they were saying. I looked at mom as she spoke the spell out loud, never losing concentration. We really did have amazing parents. It was now silent, as mom chanted the spell, her hands moving around over our heads. I could feel the breeze blowing agenst my face, my curls going behind my back. It seriously felt alot better to live out here, than any damn old castle. I closed my eyes, slightly dozing off. A few minutes passed, as Maya poked my shoulder.

"What?" I asked, hitting her hand

"Open your eyes" I slowly opened my eyes as they suddenly shot open.

"Oh my god" I took a breath, looking around the forest.

It was like the whole world had been flipped, as the luscious green trees blew in the wind, with the blue sky high up in the air. We could see in color again. I looked into Maya's blue eyes smiling.

"Thank you so much mom!" Maya and I yelled in sync, hugging her.

"I'm sorry you had to wait four years to get your color back" She hugged us back, kissing our heads.

I shook my head as I let go of mom. I took a breath as I looked at my surroundings. It was like the whole world had been repainted now in color, just for Maya and I. I looked up at the trees again and all the different colors that they portrayed. I saw Maya look at Jason, giving him a smile, as I turned to look at him. He had deep red hair, and black clothing that went perfectly with his hair style and color. His eyes were a blue color, though definitely not as nice as Maya's. I almost felt scared to look at Lin, now that I could see him in color. I dragged my eyes slowly to Lin, my thoughts going completely blank. He had deep brown eyes, with black hair, and black clothing like his dad's soldiers. He gave me a smile, causing me to smile back, my face heating up. I stood up, walking towards him

"You look so much cuter in color" I mumbled into his ear, now hugging his neck, sitting in his lap

"Your eyes are beautiful" he whispered back, my face going red.

"They are a lot bigger than they were when they were the blue" he hugged my waist as I laughed.

"Your eyes are a lot more brown than I imagined" I kissed his lips, rubbing his hair with my hand, making it messy.

"I love you" I mumbled, slightly pulling away from him.

I put my head agenst his chest smiling. This day could not get any better. I looked at Maya, as she had a shocked look on her face.

"WHAT?!"
