Chapter 18- The Dark Lord

I could hear the loud foot steps coming closer with each passing second. I quickly ran into the room and grabbed my bag, stuffing my rabbit stuffy into it, and slinging it across my chest. I quickly walked to where everyone else was standing, grabbing a hold of Lin's hand, as we all listening to the stomps. I closed my eyes, as the memories flooded back.

"How did they find us?" Maya murmured, and looked at the ground.

I shifted my eyes to Lin, and stared at him for a second. I knew it couldn't of been him.. He gave me a grim smile and I slightly frowned back. There was always that very small possibility... Even if I did love him with all my heart. I turned back around and saw Maya looking at him, as if she blamed him for everything. Jason suddenly grabbed her before she could do anything rash, causing her to jump.

"What the-" her sentence was cut off

"We have to get out of here!" Jason said to us all, panicky. Was he dumb?

"If we go outside they'll catch us even quicker!" I whispered to him harshly.

"Can't you guys just teleport us somewhere? Or maybe the old man can do it." he stated simply, and I felt somewhat like hitting him.

"There is no such thing as a teleport spell; the only one that worked could only be used by some wise men in the mountains of China! We're not in China and we couldn't of learned it! We're not Chinese!" I screamed at him. Maya quickly slapped her hand over my mouth and glared at me.

"Shut up! We just have to hide someplace!" she almost yelled, as loud as I did. I rolled my eyes at her, but stopped, as a pain surged through my body. I squinted my eyes, and grabbed my stomach, letting go of Lin's hand, and fell to the ground. I tried to look at Lin, but everything was blurry, and distorted. I felt my eyes tear up, as everything went black, just like that day long ago.

I opened my eyes, to see complete darkness. I pushed my self up with my arm, and looked around. Was it a dream? I felt around, and felt unsmooth wood all around me, telling me I was in some sort of wooden box. I felt the box bump up, as if we had rode over a large rock in the road, and I jumped a bit. What was I sitting in?

"Your awake?" I heard Jason ask me, as I crawled back to where I woke up.

"Yeah" I looked around to see where he was speaking from.

"I'm to your right" he must of saw my frantic searching. I felt around again, my hand landing on his knee.

"Okay, Thanks" I smiled at him. I wasn't sure if he could see it, but it was better than nothing. I felt around for my bag, which was thankfully still across my chest and opened it, taking my blue rabbit stuffy out.

"Where's Maya?!" I asked, looking around frantically again.

"She's to my left.." he probably turned to look at her, as I crawled slowly to where my sister was, my hand landing on her lower leg. I gave a nod, and make my way back to my spot.

"Do you know what we're sitting in?" I asked, pulling my stuffy into a hug.

"Yeah, it looks like some sort of wooden cart" he replied, tapping on the wood a couple times.

I gave a few nods and my thoughts drifted to Lin. I wasn't sure if he caused this, but I knew that I didn't want to believe it... I know he wouldn't do something like this.. especially what happened between us not long ago.. I put my fingers on my lips, thinking about the kiss that he and I shared. It was truly magical. I closed my eyes, falling asleep silently.

I opened my eyes and blinked a few times. I pushed myself up with my right arm, looking at it for a few seconds. Wasn't I hugging my rabbit? I looked around again, finally being able to see, announcing it was morning or afternoon. I saw Jason inspecting it, as if he had never seen a rabbit in his life.

"Um..I'm sorry for getting mad at you before.. at the hut" I paused. I didn't know what to say.. He looked up at me suddenly, gave me a sorry face and passed it carefully back to me.

"No, it's fine. It's... cute" he replied as if he didn't know what to call it. I gave him a nod.

"My mom made it for me when I was seven, so it's kind of like a memo" I pulled it into a hug and I suddenly felt childish.

I carefully placed it back into my bag, over my matches and other miscellaneous items I have in there. I crawled toward the side window, that let in some sunlight, and looked out of it, to see if I recognized anywhere that I passed by. At least the sky was happy.

I put my arms on top of each other, resting on the ledge, and let my thoughts wonder to Lin. Why did those men come by earlier in the day? Lin might of called them somehow... Would he do that to me? To us? Maybe while I left him in the ditch, he told them a time to come and get us later, once Maya and I were together in one location.... I took a breath and remembered the smile he gave me. It looked like guilt.

"Hey Jason" I took a slow breath.

"Yes?" He asked, playing with Maya's hair.

"Do you think it was Lin who called the men"? The cart ran by a few bushes, and I quickly held onto one, it's branch snapping off, giving me access to some huckle berries.

"Do you want me to lie?" he asked after a second

"No, it's fine" I replied, picking the leafs off the branch

"Okay.. it could of been." he stated bluntly. At least he came out straight with the answer.

I gave him a few nods meaning I agreed with him. I threw the bush onto the ground as I heard a thump, come from inside the cart, but I ignored it. Some butterflies softly landed on my hand and I stroked their wings, as I they went from hand to hand, playing with each other. I sent them back into the wilderness, where they were free to live they want. Freedom. The word echoed in my head, as if it was taunting me. That's what I want. To be free from all of this damn magic s**t. I heard talking in the back ground, which was probably Maya and Jason. I guess she finally woke up.

"What was it that came over us?" I asked her, pushing my thoughts away.

"I don't know. We either got sick with something at the same time or it was a spell." she replied.

It was obviously a spell that hit us, but who cast it? I didn't think it was Lin, but who knows if he actually knows magic?

"You think it was Lin don't you?" I asked her.

She nodded to me, and I sighed.

"I think so too." I said doubtingly. Who else could have done it?

"He told me he was sent to capture us, it was probably a whole trick and scam." I let my emotions flow out of me, as my tears went down my face. I couldn't hold them in.

I put my face in my hands that were in fists, and cried for the dumb mistake that I made. I should of known better than to fall in love with the dark lord's only son. I remembered the way his lips felt on mine, how gentle he was when he had his hands on my face, and how happy it made me feel to be with him, to kiss him, to tell him that I loved him, and that he loved me. I let out a loud sob. It felt like my heart was crying for him, wanting to be with him. I felt Maya come and hug me, as I turned my body to cry in her shoulder. Maybe everything was my fault. I shouldn't of tripped that time, when I looked at our burning village. Maybe we could of gotten away, then all of this wouldn't of happened and Mom wouldn't be under the Dark Lord's grasp, as we were about to be.

The cart came to a stop, and soldiers opened the door and pulled us out. They commanded us to walk in a straight line, and I didn't bother to disobey. I quickly wiped my eyes, getting a few glares from the soldiers, but I ignored it, and kept walking. We walked for a long while, which felt like hours, but I didn't want to lag around, as Maya was behind me, along with a couple soldiers. We came to a door, and I came to a stop. It looked a lot like the door I saw when we were at the dark lord's camp ground, four years ago.

I took a breath, as we were shoved into, yet another colorless room. I looked at the Dark Lord, and felt like biting his head off, for sending his damn son at me, and shredding my family to almost nothing. I looked at the woman next to him, and knew instantly it was mom. It was hard to tell from being partly blind, but it couldn't of been anyone else. She looked completely expressionless, as if she'll never see the light of day again. This was the hell hole she's been tied up in for four years?

'Don't do anything to anger him. I know it's mom but we can't save her with all these people around.' She told me calmly.

'We can't save our own mother? The one who taught us-' I felt infuriated with everything.

'She isn't the same woman sitting there. We have to wait for a better time.'

I nodded, and closed my eyes tightly

"Bow you witches!" said one of the soldiers, my eyes opening again.

I wasn't sure if I should listen to him, and decided to follow Maya, by not doing anything. He made a swing at Maya, but and arm blocked it and she slightly turned to Jason, giving him a small smile.

"No need for them to bow to me. We're close enough to family of friends. Isn't that right girls?" said the dark lord.

"Go die in a hole." I spat at him. He has no right to be my father.

The Dark Lord chuckled at me.

"I'm sure your mother wouldn't like that coming out of your mouth."

"What comes out of her mouth is also what comes out of yours nowadays isn't it?" I stated harshly

"Hm."

He stood up and came up to us. He just glanced at me, as I glared at him and then looked at Maya with a savage grin.

"Having nothing to say my dear?"

Maya didn't look at him.

"Maybe you've gone mute like you've gone blind."

"Part blind." she muttered.

"So that wizard did have restraint." He said

"Who said it was the wizard?" I asked, and turned back to face him.

I looked away, and looked at our mom. She always loved wearing bright colors, to match the seasons, like the flash back the wizard showed us, of her wearing the lace dress, but she wore a long dress that probably was black and black made mom look so pale. Her brown hair looked much longer than she usually had it and she still had no trace of emotion.

"Well, I finally have you all here! And with all your power I'll be able to rule not just this land but the entire world!" I felt like slapping him and sending him to hell.

"What makes you think they'll help you?" Jason asked, sounding just as mad as I did.

The Dark Lord gave him a wicked smile.

"Well my boy, I'll just put them under my spell, just like their mother up there."

Jason gave a small twitch but didn't do anything. He suddenly hit Jason, sending him into the wall. Maya quickly ran towards him and kneeling next to him, but she didn't touch him. He probably broke a few bones, and shouldn't be moved too much. The dark lord just laughed at the sight, giving me all the more reason to smack him.

"Well, I know who your weakness is! Where's that wizard?! I need him to hypnotize these girls before-"

The doors suddenly burst open, causing me to jump. I turned to look at the door and saw Lin walk in. He looked out of breath and sweaty. Fantastic. What did he want now? I don't know where in hell he went after the pain went though our body, but I wished he stayed there. Hadn't he already caused me enough pain? I glared at him, as he glanced at me, then back at his father.

"Lin? Where on earth have you been?" His father walked to his side, and put a hand on his shoulder.

"The witches captured them." said a voice still in the hall. I ignored it, and kept glaring at the dark lord and his son.

"Well, we were just about-"

"No!" Lin cut him off

The Dark Lord looked confused, but before he could say anything else Lin spoke up.

"Don't hypnotize them yet! The wizard told me that he needs more energy to perform a hypnotizing spell since he used most of it bringing us here." Great. Was he blaming his problems on the wizard now?

"Well, we should put them someplace that they can't run off too hm?"

"Put those two in one of the guest rooms." Lin replied. "But let Candace come with me."

I stared at him in shock of his comment. What the hell did he just say!?
