Chapter 16- Memories I never knew

I looked around, shocked, as the whole land was filled with little huts. We were definitely in a village. I glanced around, and brought up my hand to wipe my tears. I hoped no one noticed. I took a breath, as I was finally able to move around. It felt like ages since I was able to breathe. Lin, and the wizard, whom I refused to call my father, was still in front of me, Jason and Maya on my right and left side. The wizard looked like he was going to cry, he looked so sad.

"Maya, what's going on?" I asked her, confused.

"I think we're in a flash back of the wizard's memory" she replied to me slowly

I didn't speak after that. I looked around the village again, trying to figure out where me might be happening.

"Candace, are you okay?" Lin asked me quietly, now closer to my side

"Yeah, I'm fine. Why do you ask?" I brought my hands back to my eyes, and wiped away a new set of tears, that had formed without my notice.

"Oh. Never mind" he dropped the subject, and I just nodded to him once.

A young female girl, maybe fifteen or sixteen walked out of a small hut wearing a puffy, yet flowy dress, with ribbons in her brown hair, that were in braids. She was walking down the road, humming a tune that I didn't recognize. She was carrying a bucket, probably going to get water from the well. The girl tied the bucket securely to a rope, and dropped it down into the well, with a large rock in it. It made a loud "sploosh" sound, and she gave a small giggle.

"Maya.. You don't suppose that's mom.. do you?" I asked, looking at her. She looked at me, but just shrugged, and looked back at the girl.

The girl brought the pail back up, now filled with water. She placed it on the side of the well, un-tieing the rope from the pail, and headed back to the hut.

"Ina!" A boy, maybe Maya's age called after her, as she spun around to face him, spilling a bit of water.

"Yes, Kane?" She asked, looking at him, slightly glancing at how much water she split. He looked at the ground as if he was flustered, and pulled out a single rose from behind his back.

"Will... Will you be my Valentine?" He asked her, looking determined

"Yes!" She gave him a sweet smile, and took the rose with her hand, almost dropping the water. He took the pail out of her hand, and started walking back in the same direction as our mom, they both were smiling at each other happily.

The scene suddenly changed, and two people, a young woman, and a young male, each holding a baby, quickly came running in our direction. I was about to run out of the way, since they didn't seem to see us, but Lin grabbed my arm, and just shook his head at me. The two people suddenly ran though us, as if we were ghosts, and I widened my eyes as if a piece of wood had just hit my face.

"Candace!" Maya whispered at me, making Lin and Jason look in our direction. I stared wide eyed at the scene, as I turned around when they ran behind us, giving a nod after a few seconds.

"Lets go.." I called to her quietly, and started running behind the couple. Maya was at my side in an instant, with the wizard, and the two boys behind us. Okay, so the morning runs mom made us do, maybe did help a little bit..

I shook that thought out of my head, almost running into Maya. I turned my head, and looked at the familiar sight. Men in dark clothing were running after us, or rather the couple and the babies, and I ran faster, as if to warn them that the men were catching up. Maya was still at my side, just as shocked as I was.

"Maya... It's mom!" I felt the tears in my eyes, as the memory of when mom, Maya, and I were running from the men, all those years ago, came back into my head.

"I know, Candace." She gave me one or two pats on the head, and I wiped my tears with my hands.

We came up behind the couple, and Maya and I looked into the arms of the parents, who took a short break, and stared in shock.

"It's us.." I spoke slowly, trying to take in everything that was happening.

Everyone's head shot up, as a loud noise of foot steps came into our direction, and the couple started running again.

"Kane! Their catching up too fast" Mom almost screamed, her voice hoarse.

"Here, take Maya! I'll hold them off" He replied back to her, as she took Maya into her open left arm.

"But.. They'll kill you!!.." Her voice trailed off, as he started running towards the men, passing though us again.

"Go, Ina!" he yelled at her, as he used the same time spell that he used on us earlier today. She nodded once, and started running away again.

Mom ran for another twenty or so minutes, and ran under a root, that was sticking up. She sat underneath it, panting heavily. Maya and I went around to look at her, as her tear drops fell onto our the faces of our baby self's.

"Mommy? Why are you crying?" Baby Maya asked, her eyes tearing up, trying to wipe away her mom's tears. My baby self also began to cry, as if I was copying Maya.

"Shh, it's okay, everything will be alright." Mom replied, not giving a full answer to baby Maya's question, while patting our heads.

I closed my eyes, trying to remember that scene, of when I was a child, but nothing came to my mind. I reopened my eyes and I blinked a few times, realizing that we were back in the hut again. I slowly shook my head, and looked at the wizard, to Maya, and back to the wizard again. I felt like my heart was going to burst from all the emotions that ran though my body.

"Meadow..." was all I could manage to Maya of where I was going, as I ran out of the hut, and began to run to the meadow once again. It took much longer by walking in human form to get there, but I couldn't shift into any animals at this moment. I eventually got to the meadow, and placed myself in the middle of the meadow, pulling my knees into my chest. Lin slowly came out of the forest, and sat next to me in the tall grass, giving me a hug.

Why did everything suddenly get so hard?
