Truth in Sight- Chapter 13

I opened my eyes lazily, as I heard a new knocks on the little closet door. I heard a few birds chirping, signaling it was already morning. I rubbed my eyes, and pushed my hair out of my face. It always got so messy when I cried.

"Candace.." I heard Maya's voice calling to me, through the door

"Hmm..?" I replied back. I didn't feel like opening my mouth.

"I'm sorry for yelling at you.." I heard a slight thump, and I figured that Maya sat down on the floor

"Hm" I replied once again. I hope it didn't sound too mean, but I was still upset over the previous night. I opened the door, and crawled out, sitting next to her. I placed my head on her shoulder, and closed my eyes. My eyes felt really heavy from the crying I did, as Maya patted my head.

"I'm sorry for screaming back" I heard Maya chuckle, and she gave me another light tap on the head.

I smiled to myself, as I would always keep that moment in my head. Sure, it wasn't the happiest of times, but it was a time, that I could feel our sister bond, that Maya and I shared.
I took off Lin's bandages, and re-wrapped them again tightly. At least his bleeding had completely stopped. I took a breath, and walked to the door, taking a step outside the hut. It has been now five days that Lin was staying in our hut. It's a bit hard to count the days, as they go past, but you eventually get how to keep track, mostly by following the wilderness, and seasons.

"Maya!" I called through the forest. It was amazing how much a voice could echo through the forest.

"Coming!" I heard a voice echo back to me. Sometimes it felt like I was an older sister. Maya came into my view, and she looked really happy, she was probably with Jason again. Jason also stayed in our hut, but he shared the room with Lin, and he slept on a futon, like Maya and I.

"Breakfast??" I asked her. Maya always did the cooking, since I'd burn the poor hut down. She smiled at me, and I followed her back into the hut.

"Where's Jason?" I asked, as I took a nibble out of some bread

"Oh, I told him to go collect some herbs, and a few berries" Maya took a piece of bread herself, and started munching on it.

"Oh.. I see" I didn't know what to say to that.

"..Candace, do you.. Love Lin?" She asked me, her face straight. How she asked that question with a face like that, I do not know.

"Um.. not.. really.." I felt my face burn up. It wasn't really a lie.. I don't know if I love him or not

"Hmph. Okay." I took a breath of relief, as she dropped the subject. Maya's face suddenly went hard, and I heard a few thumps come from behind me. Did Lin wake up already? I spun around, and fell on my elbow, from the sudden movement. I winced, but ignored it, and looked up at the door way of the guest room. Lin had woken up.

"L-Lin, your awake!" I cried with joy, and tried to stand up to hug him. I stood up, and Maya quickly grabbed the back of my dress, her eyes glaring at Lin.

"Maya?" I asked, and turned around to face her. I looked down at the spot that she grabbed of my dress, and I lowered my head. It was where my shirt was covered heavily in blood, a couple days ago. My whole outfit, which I no longer wore, was still covered in blood, hanging over the railing. We tried to wash it out, but it didn't work too well. I shut my eyes, in attempt to look away from the glare that she gave Lin. I turned my head back to Lin, and forced a smile.

"So, I guess you've met my sister?" I asked, Maya still holding onto my shirt. He gave me a small nod, and carefully came into the living room. I smacked my sister's hand off of my dress, with the back of my hand, giving her a small glare, and I went to help Lin. He looked.. very shocked.

"Candace.. What happend to your clothing?" I glanced down at my long dress, that I had changed into, after my other set of clothing had been drenched in blood.

"..Well.. someone had to get you to the hut, right?" I replied, giving him a smile. He frowned at me, and looked back at Maya. He placed his right arm across his stomach, probably supporting the injury.

Since my other set of clothing had been covered in blood, Maya ran down to the market place, in search for new clothing for me. She eventually had found me a beautiful dress, that I now love to death. The dress was dark around the chest area, and flowed into a clear white, near my feet. It had tiny sparkles, and shone in the sunlight, and that left a small trail of silver dust. It had a light blue butterfly at my waist, that looked oddly real. It was a spaghetti strapped style, but it didn't really matter what type of clothing you had up here, we hardly ever got rain.

"Lin, are you okay?" He just gave me a small nod again. I went to his side, and gave him a small hug. I felt my face get hotter, and I let go. Hopefully that wasn't too out of line.. He smiled down at me, and I couldn't but help but to smile back. His smile suddenly faded, as Maya was still looking at him. She was probably scaring the crap out of him.

"MAYA! Stop glaring at him!" I cried to my sister. She had no right to be giving him such a stare.

"How is your injury?" I asked, before Maya has a chance to reply to me, and I helped him sit down on the cushion, then sitting myself onto a cushion next to him, my legs leaning on the right side on the ground

"It feels alot better, now.." I don't think our conversations have felt this awkward before.

"Thank goodness.. Don't move around too much, okay?" I said, placing my hand on my chest, exhaling some air, and looking back at him.

"Candace. Remember what you said you would do once he woke up?" I winced as I remembered, and I shook my head.

"He just got out of bed for the first time in a while. Just drop it for now, Okay?" I replied, looking at her crossly. She crossed her arms, but she dropped it.

"Did you.. Take care of me?" Lin asked, looking down at me.I was playing with the hem of my dress. He was still much taller than me, even though we were sitting. I felt my face reheat, and I gave a small nod, looking down, crumpling that one spot of the dress, embarrassed. He leaned down, and gave me a hug, and a smile burst out on my face. He felt so.. warm.. even if he had lost alot of blood

"Candace. Now." Maya commanded me, snapping me back to reality. I looked at Lin, then looked down at the floor. He released me from the hug, and he and I gave a frown. So much for "in a while". How was I supposed to ask? I felt Lin stare at me in confusion, but I ignored it. I took a few breaths, and I looked up at him.

"Lin, there's something I need to ask you.." My voice trailed of.. I really didn't know how to ask him..

"Just say it bluntly, Candace." Maya suggested to me. I guess that was the best action.

"I was wondering... who your.. your father is..." I looked down at the ground again, afraid to see what his face looked like. I squinted my eyes together for a few seconds, building up some guts, and looked back at him. His face looked very guilty. I gave a small frown.

"My father.. is the one many people know as the dark lord" He looked at me, even more guilty than he was a second ago. I stared at him, shocked. What was I supposed to do? It was one thing for Maya to tell me it, but it was like a whole world crashing, now that Lin told me, and confirmed it.

"Why didn't you tell me before?!" I almost yelled at him, and I stood up. I could feel my anger rising, which would eventually lead me to crying. He stood up behind me, and tried to grab my arm, but I pulled it away. I quickly turned around to face him, and slightly glared at him. I looked down at the floor, my anger still there

"I thought I could trust you!" I raised my head to glare at him, and my vision became blurry. I quickly shifted into a blue butterfly, flying out the open door, before he could say anything. I didn't bother to care to watch where I was going, but I knew I had to be alone. I shifted back to myself in mid-air, and I landed on a grassy area. I looked around, and realized that I had flown to the meadow where I first met Lin. I sat down, pulling my knees to my chest, as I felt the tears that I didn't know was there, fall, letting out a loud sob, only leading to more tears running down my face. I hate how I always cried after I get mad at someone. But that didn't really matter right now. I let a quieter sob out, and tried to wipe some of tears on my hands, with no avail. Maya's voice mocked me in my head, that he was the dark lord's son. I doubt she would let this go, and she will probably pester me about it later. Not to mention, I got mad at Lin, and stormed off so randomly, leaving him there with her. I can't believe he didn't tell me from before... Before I knew I lo-- I dropped that thought immediately. I didn't need this. Thinking like that didn't help at all. It only brought on a new bucket of tears, and another loud sobbing noise.

I took a shaky breath, and put myself on my stomach, on the grass, placing my head in my crossed arms. I felt a cold breeze on my body, telling me it was going to rain, but I ignored it. The rain was the least of my worries at this moment. I numbed my thoughts out of my head. They were only making me feel that much worse. I felt a few rain drops on my body, and I wish I still had my longer skirt with me. I heard foot steps in the distance, but I didn't care to listen, or pay attention to them. It was probably Maya, anyway. Those few rain drops grew into many, and before I knew it, my clothing were drenched. I didn't care to get up to go home.

"..Candace" Maya call to me. She sounded guilty

"Hm"

"Come home." she simply said. I didn't bother to reply to that comment

Maya sat down next to me in the rain, and stroked my head, trying to calm me down. She hummed the tune that mom always sung to us, when we couldn't sleep. I already felt alot calmer. I closed my eyes, and I dosed off into a sleep. I could feel my dress sticking to my body, but I ignored it, as I was doing to many things at this moment. I felt myself be lifted off the ground, and I opened my eyes in alarm.

"Candace, chill out. It's just me" I heard Maya call to me.

"Oh.." Who knew Maya could still carry me? I hugged my sister's neck, and closed my eyes again.

I felt myself be placed carefully down on a cushion, and Maya threw a blanket on my head. Maya was so weird sometimes. She handed me a little cup of a hot liquid, and smiled to me. She always knew exactly what I needed when I was upset. I took a sip of the hot chocolate, and gave a smile. Maya left the room, and went onto the deck with Jason. They were so cute together.
I paused mid way of my sip as Lin came back into my mind. I kinda felt like hitting my head on the wall. I guess it was time I apologized to Lin.

I carefully stood up, and walked to the guest room, placing the cup of hot chocolate on a small table. I wasn't sure if he was actually there, but there was only one way to find out. I didn't think that Maya would be mean enough to kick out an injured person, even if this 'injured person' was the son of the dark lord. I took a step into the room, and gave a high pitched sneeze, announcing my entrance. Stupid rain.. He looked at me shocked, and carefully sat up, looking at me. I felt the guilt run through my stomach, and looked at the floor. I shuffled my feet towards him, still looking down.

"Lin.. I'm sorry for yelling at you... I really shouldn't of acted the way I did.." I looked at the floor, as it became blurry. Why was I crying so much?

I heard Lin stand up on the floor, and he limped a bit towards my direction, and he embraced me in a hug. I felt my face heat up. He really was tall.. My face only went to his shoulder.. He slightly let go, and he held my face in his right hand, wiping away a tear that fell down my cheek with his thumb. I couldn't help but stare into his non-colored eyes, as he stared into mine. Having no color when you look, was no fun at all.

"You have nothing to be sorry for, when my family is the one whom took yours away" he said to me, his pulled me into another hug. I gave a smile, and placed my head on his shoulder.

If only life could always be like this.
