My friend Chidori once told me, "Following the music... is much more than just following a sound." I never understood it at first. All her puzzles and riddles were too much for me to bare at the time.

Then, one day, I was walking behind K building afterschool juggling multiple thoughts at once - chemical equations, ionic bonds, the Great Depression... typical high school subjects - and I heard this sound. I paused, and looked arounds curiously for the peepish sound, and discovered it coming from the building. So I pushed my ear against the door and heard it, singing to me, calling to me. Such distinction among anything else I've ever heard. My heart burst. I had to know what this was.

I ended up in a chair among other students in the band class, unaware of what we were to do. So the director handed me the case of the instrument I would eventually fall in love with: the oboe.

I was a confused little girl. All this talk about reeds and tounge-finger coordination was all too much. But, eventually, I got the hang of it. Every solo, every duet, every counter melody I take up... have I ever known love before meeting my music?

I guess I understand now what she meant when she told me to follow the music. ^___^
