Chained Guardian Chapter 4: Unknown, Yet Familiar
Once we arrived at Lord Edward’s village it seemed like I’d been there before even though I knew that was impossible. Everyone had such kind and respectful eyes towards him as we passed by everyone slightly bowed their heads in sincere respect for him as their leader. I could tell Edward earned their respect from good deeds and kind words rather than harsh treatment and cruelty. As we approached the palace a few attendants came to take Lord Edwards belonging (a small bag with some food, a knife to skin small animals with and some healing herbs used to make medicine for all kinds of ailments and also his long bow and quiver with as little as 10 maybe less hand made arrows). Edward seemed to have been on a hunting trip before he stopped to help me. I hadn’t even noticed his appearance before now since I still felt as if I was in some kind of dream and at anytime I’d wake up safe and sound in my bed as if nothing had happened.
“Young lord, may I take your coat and belonging up to your guest room for you?” One of the attendants said, kneeling down slightly to make eye contact with me. “Um…sure.” I said taking off my long coat that I just barely noticed I still had on, even though I didn't need it inside the palace. As for the rest of my belongings, I had none, except for a strange white orb I had on a thin piece of leather around my neck, but for some reason I didn’t want to give it up. I felt like I shouldn’t so I only gave the attendant my coat and thanked him.
“Shall we go young master Joseph?” Edward said drawing my attention from the various details of the decorations on the palace walls, ceiling, and the pattern of the carpet to Edward who seemed at least 15 paces away from me now. “Yes, sorry… It’s just so big and beautiful. Every detail is beyond words.” I said as I ran to Edward’s side. Edward laughed as he replied “If you think that’s amazing wait till you see the garden. There are over 300 varieties of plants and over 1000 different kinds of insects that come by to feed on the nectar.” He said proudly.
“Juliana dearest where are you? We have a visitor.” Edward said standing at the base of the first of the two staircases, one of each side of the room, with a set of double doors at the top. There was also another set of double doors about 10 feet away, all of them lead into a massive ballroom. A very beautiful woman dressed in a light blue and white ruffled dress came down the left hand staircase and hugged Edward. “I’m glad your home safe.” She said after releasing him from the embrace. “Juliana dear this is Joseph. I found him wandering the forest where I hunt. I think he might have been separated from his family so I brought him home with me. I hope you don’t mind him staying until I can find his parents do you?” Edward said somewhat sounding like a pleating child that wanted to keep a small creature he'd found in the woods. “Of course he can stay Edward. We have plenty of room and I’m sure the boys would love to have someone around to play with. Speaking of which, where are those two troublemakers of ours?” Juliana said looking at Edward as if she expected him to know. “Hmmm…well I guess they would probably be in the kitchen eating dessert before dinner.” Edward said signaling me to follow him, while Juliana just shook her head in disappointment.
Edward and I found Sebastien and Macarius sitting on the kitchen floor, each with a plate full of chocolate cake, three different kinds of cookies and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Both of them looked up at Edward and smiled knowing that Edward wouldn’t punish them as harshly as their mother would. “I’ll let this go if you two share with Joseph. He’s going to be staying with us for sometime so I want you two to be nice to him and show him around once you’re done with your pre-dinner snack okay?” Edward said. Both Sebastien and Macarius nodded, handed me a cookie, and introduced themselves. I could already tell that I would become good friends with the two of them even though I’d just barely met everyone. I think Edward felt that way as well, because he smiled while he watched us eat for a moment before he rejoined Juliana in the throne room to report that he had found the whereabouts of Sebastien and Macarius although he forgot to mention what they were doing when he found them.
{Chapter 5 Preview: Becoming a prince. Joseph is quickly accepted into Edward’s family as his adopted son after a month of Edward searching for anyone who might know about Joseph’s previous family. During that time Edward found no traces or leads once so ever. Although the month passed by quickly Joseph’s memory of his past life only returned in tiny fragments as dreams that make Joseph question whether they were real or not... so he decides not to discuss them with anyone until he was sure of their meanings and significance. Joseph’s bond with his new brothers grows stronger with each day that passes and before long the people of the village begin to refer them as the “three musketeers” and the “trouble making trio.” Joseph welcomes these nicknames as they make him feel at home and accepted into his new family.}
