Chained Guardian Chapter 2: Death At Dawn
What happened next would change my life forever. Tashir brought me back to my father who seemed concerned as he muttered things like "Are you okay my son?" and "They didn't hurt you did they?" The only thing I could do is look up at my father confused entirely at what was going on. "The young lord still seems to be in shock my lord Solomon. I will have attendants take him to his room and look after him while we decide on a course of action against the ones that kidnapped him." Tashir said quickly calling on two middle aged women, who escorted me to my room down the hall. One of them stayed in my room sitting in a chair near my bed, while the other remained outside my door, in case I needed something, that wasn't readily available in my room, or that they couldn't make with their magic.
"Lady Aisha what is going on?" I said looking at the woman who stayed inside my room. "It was fortunate Lord Tashir found you when he did. Those horrible humans kidnapped you and were going to force you to go with them and use you for you gifts." Aisha said scornfully. "but that's not --" I began to say but Aisha interrupted. "Young lord, you should rest. You've been though a lot. Please sleep." Aisha's words felt like they seeped into my very soul and by the end of her request I was already in a deep dreamless sleep. Aisha took this opportunity to speak telepathically to Lord Tashir.
"Lord Tashir. Kazari is asleep as you requested. I still don't understand what is going on. The young lord wasn't hurt, so how can you explain that the humans kidnapped him. If that was true wouldn't the humans have drawn his magic from him?" Aisha was shaky as she spoke those words in her mind, waiting for Tashir's response. "That is what would of happened if I hadn't of stopped them my lady." Tashir replied back calmly though his words felt like knives cutting Aisha in random places though out her body. "Yes, my lord. Forgive me." Aisha said dropping to her knees cradling her shoulders. "Please take care of the young lord. He is our future." Tashir said and then he cut off the communication channel with Aisha.
Tashir met with my father and gave his report on the alleged "kidnapping of prince Kazari" and discussed what should be done about it. The only reason I knew anything about what was said between them was Samuel stood in my place at the meeting, speaking on my behalf. Samuel told me everything after the meeting was over and the attendants were dismissed by Tashir's orders.
" I can only imagine the attendants were here to watch over ya my lord. Make sure you didn't escape your room and get captured again, or eavesdrop on the battle plan. Never fear though. I don't think they suspected I was yer spy. They plan to raid lord Devin's hang out tomorrow evening. Tashir believes you were kidnapped, but if he finds out you willing went to them there's no tellin' what lies he will feed yer father to turn him against ya. Even worse yet is what if they see you sneaking out and follow you to where he is at. " Samuel said sitting in the chair Aisha was sitting in before.
" Samuel... What should I do? Tashir is telling lies to my father and he wants to hurt Lord Devin." I said unable to take sides between my father and Tashir and Lord Devin and his friends. It felt like my heart was ripped in two at that instant. "My lord it's is best you warn Devin about the raid in secret and tell him to move his companions as far away from here as possible. It will, most likely, mean you'll never see him again, but if he stays here Tashir may very well kill him." I knew in my heart Samuel was right, but it would be the hardest good-bye I'd ever have to say.
That night Samuel went with me to meet with Devin and tell him about Tashir's planned attack. Samuel and I didn't know at the time that we were being followed by Tashir and two of this high ranked soldiers using a spell to mask their presence. Devin and his group were in the same spot as usual, on the far side of a small lake. As we approached them, Devin turned around and greeted us with a smile and offered us some of the food. I took some right away, but Samuel hesitated fearing what the elders said to be true. I took several bites of the meat then looked at Samuel. He seemed convinced the meat was fine to eat and joined in. Samuel didn't know any of Devin's language at all so I acted as an interpreter between them. Samuel understood completely why it was so easy for me to make friends with Devin and his comrades and quickly concluded that they were nothing like what the elders said they were.
"They have bewitched the prince. He is under their spell. We must act now and free his heart from those demons." Tashir said to the men at his side. All three of them spread their wings and charged across the lake straight at Devin's group on the other side. Samuel quickly shielded me as one of Tahir's men killed Lillian and the other killed Thomas. Devin quickly became enraged as he pulled out his long bow and pointed it straight at me and Samuel. "This is your fault. Why did you order them to attack us?" Devin shouted as he drew back the bow. Teshir and his men didn't have time to react to Devin's sudden movements, and although they tired, they weren't able to stop Devin from releasing the arrow. The sealing arrow pierced through Samuel's chest and landed a few inches from my heart. Samuel turned into his dragon form and I held him in my arms unsure if he was alive or dead. My body began to feel heavy as I struggled to stay awake. I watched as Devin and Tashir fought each other relentlessly. It came down to one final blow. Devin called forth an exorcism from his short sword, but before it turned Tashir to dust, Tashir got one mortal blow on Devin that ended up killing him. I could feel tears running down my cheeks as I held Samuel close to me. I could faintly feel his heartbeat. "He's not dead...just asleep...He's sealed us ...instead of killing us..." Those were the last words I said before I slipped into a deep sleep.
{Chapter 3 Preview: It wouldn't be until 300 years later would I find out what happened to Devin and Tashir. Awakened from the long sleep I set out on a journey to find any one who might know about my brothers, Artimus and Akari, and anything about my tribe that were no longer in the forest, which now looks long abandoned by man. Check it out in the next chapter! }
