Chapter 4 of the vampire story!
‘Not again…’ you think as you awaken for the second time in the course of only a few hours.
You seem to have a knack for getting into danger, but as you looked around, you were back in your bed, the red curtains drawn. A bandage was wrapped around your neck, and as your fingers reached up to touch it, you recalled yesterday’s encounter.
The images flashed into your head, reminding you of the horror you had endured.
Fangs pierced your warm flesh , your body paralyzed, not able to run away, not able to scream.
And then it hit you. Damien must be a vampire, and so, Eric must be one as well.
You sat up quickly, and opened the curtains around your bed. Frantically, you looked around your room for a mirror, or at least some kind of reflective surface.
You found a small hand mirror on top of the dresser that had not been there the other day. Someone must have put it there…
That didn’t matter right now though. You held the beautifully ornamented mirror up so that you could see your face, and you opened your mouth.
You sighed with relief. No fangs.
You were a little pale, but you assumed that it was because of the blood loss you had recently suffered. You frowned at your reflection. Your hair was a mess, and you were still wearing that white nightgown.
You were just thinking that you could use a shower and a change of clothing, when your door opened.
You were too busy scrutinizing your appearance to notice that someone had entered at all. That is, until you heard a soft chuckle from behind you.
Quickly, you turned around, but it turned out only to be Eric, a tray in his hands. He smiled and walked towards you, setting the tray down on the dresser.
“I’m so sorry about last night. My brother hadn’t fed in some time, and when he saw you, he must have lost control.” A look of annoyance crossed his face, and you thought you saw a hint of jealousy in his eyes, but the look was gone in an instant.
Again, Eric spoke. “I know you must be hungry. I brought you some food, but all I can make are simple things, like eggs.”
You turned, looking at the tray of food, and as you did so, you realized that you hadn’t eaten in what seemed like years. Immediately, you dug into the food. Eric had given you toast, a couple of eggs, and a glass or orange juice. It wasn’t anything special, but to you it was delicious, being your first meal in a long while.
“You’re lucky I pulled Damien off of you when I did, or you would have been a goner. “ Eric said, and he chuckled again, watching you inhale the food. “I see you like it. Well, I’ve got some other things to do. Damien should have calmed down by now, so the castle should be safe enough for you to explore a bit.”
You nodded. Eric left, but took one last look at you before closing the door behind him. If you had not been concentrating on your food, you might have seen the slightest smile come across his face.
When you finished your meal, you set the tray back on the dresser setting the small hand mirror beside it. You wondered vaguely if vampires had reflections, but shook that thought away.
Eric had not told you if they had given you any clothing besides the white nightgown you had been wearing for who knows how long, and you decided that it wouldn’t hurt to open your dresser and see for yourself.
To your delight, the dresser had several drawers full of clothing that looked as though it would fit you.
Now, dressed in a new set of clothing, and having found and used a hairbrush in the process, you decided to take up Eric’s offer and explore the castle.
For long hours, you walked through the upper and lower floors, familiarizing yourself with the castle, so that you would never have to get lost again. You were now wandering the upper floor for the second time. You had previously passed by a door that had a huge lock on it, but was cracked open a bit. Open doors had gotten you into a lot of trouble before, but Eric had said that Damien was calm now, ans was of no danger to you. You decided that this door deserved a second look.
As you returned to the door, it was still cracked open.
You opened it slowly, and it creaked on its hinges. Before you was yet another spiral staircase, but this one was dark, and made of stone.
You just had to find out what was at the top of those stairs, you just HAD to.
As you climbed the winding stairs, they seemed to have no end. The longer you walked, the darker it got. When at last you reached the top, you saw yet another big door, a soft light spilling out from underneath of it.
You turned the brass doorknob and stepped softly inside.
Inside, the room was rounded, and there was one small window to the outside. ‘I must be in a tower…’ You think, and continue to survey the room.
The light was coming from a single, small lamp on the far side of the room, casting long shadows. The room itself was covered in papers and open books. As you walked forward, you saw something disturbing. Blood.
You were frightened once again, and you were frozen to the spot, staring at the blood that seemed to only contaminate one particular area of the room.
“You shouldn’t be in here. What are you doing here ______?”
A calm, but angry voice said.
As you turned to identify the speaker, your eyes widened in fright, recognizing just who it was.
A shadow covered him almost completely, but you were able to make out and angry pair of ice blue eyes.
