Katrina chuckled as she went up to Smas and Curly.
"You know, maybe we should get out of here," she said. "Smas, what's that you got?"
"Oh, nothing" he said, looking guiltily at her.
"I've told a lot of lies in my short time, and I know one when I see one. What is it?"
"Notebook," he said grudgingly.
"That wasn't so hard, now, was it?"
He grimaced at these words, but then said, "Let's get out of here."
Katrina wheeled around, a triumphant smile on her face, and walked right past the line of guards. One of them seemed to come to his senses, because he stepped out in front of her.
"We're going to see about this whole 'fat' business of yours," he said, his voice large and gruff.
"Okay, obese." Said Katrina, smirking.
His face turned a cherry red, "You'll pay for that"
Katrina smiled, "Sorry, but I've no money"
Katrina darted around him, and ran out the door, Curly and Smas following her. She darted through the city streets, dodging glares from passerby, and she found herself in a town-ish area. There were small houses, some apartments, and she turned to Smas.
"Where are we now?" she asked him, almost accusingly.
He cringed, "No need to be snappy, but we're in a suburb of Minneapolis.
"Do you know what it's called?"
He shrugged, "No, but this isn't a good place to hang out, you know. It's very densely populated."
She rolled her eyes, "We'll just have to keep walking"
Smas nodded, and Curly led the way through streets and alleys. Every once in a while, they would pass by a random place. They had walked past a few city signs, and by now, they found themselves in a quiet neighborhood with a few dogs roaming the yards.
"There's a trail over there," said Smas, pointing at a paved trail, "Should we go that way?"
Katrina nodded, "Yes, lets"
They got on the trail, and were looking around. Curly started off on a smaller dirt trail. It was very narrow, so they had to walk in single file. Curly first, Katrina second, Smas last. This trail led down to a river, and Smas knelt down to touch it.
"Wow," he said out loud, "It's moving pretty fast Must have a pretty big-- KATRINA!!"
Katrina whirled around, and saw that he had fallen in. The water was deeper and faster than they had imagined, Smas was already in the middle, and being pulled down. She panicked for a second, but Curly had already beaten her to him.
"Hold on, Smas!!" she yelled, jumping in right after Curly.
She front-crawled over to him, and held him up on her shoulders. The undertow pulled her down, but she got up enough to breathe. Smas was shivering on her shoulders, and Curly was dog-paddling next to them.
"BRANCH!" yelled Smas, as a branch went over his head, right where it had been two seconds before. Katrina saw a tree laying in the middle of the river, and she grabbed onto it. Curly had climbed up on it, and she was barking.
"What should we do, Smas?" she asked.
"Let go."
"Are you trying to get us killed!?"
"All rivers lead to a lake."
She took a deep breath. "Hope you're right," she said, and she let go, Curly jumped in right behind her.
