Later that night, Katrina was leaning up against a lamppost, Curly lying down on her thighs. She was absentmindedly petting her softly. She sighed, wondering what was going to happen to her and Curly. A kid ran out of a door in the apartment next to her, screaming inside her house.
I can take care of myself! He yelled into the open door. Ill show you, I dont need your help!
Katrina stood up abruptly, forgetting Curly on her lap. Curly yelped, and stood up on her paws, looking at Katrina intently. But she was busy.
"That boy," she muttered to herself, "He means something, but I just can't place it" She started messing around with the ends of her hair, watching the boy rush out of his house, and run down the street toward her. Right as he went past her, she shot out her arm, stopping him.
"Wait," she said, "You probably shouldn't run away like that, do you even know where you're going?"
He looked at her, hatred filling his eyes. "I hate being told what to do by people that are older than me!" he screamed at her. She flinched, and balled her hand into a fist. Standing up, she told him
"I'm not telling you what to do! I'm trying to help you!"
"You know nothing of my problems!" he yelled at her.
"You think you have it bad!" she yelled right back at him, "The only thing I know about me is my name, and I don't even know it that's true!"
He looked at her with mild interest, but jumped when Curly stuck her nose in his hand. He looked down at her, and actually smiled. The street lamp clicked on, and she could finally get a good look at him.
The kid had blue hair that barely reached his ears, deep blue eyes, and he was wearing a white T-shirt and blue jeans. He looked like he would be around thirteen, but she couldn't be totally sure.
She sighed, "Look, I'm sorry I snapped at you," she said, turning her attention to the light, "Would you like to join us? We have nowhere to go, and we're on the run, anyways."
"How do you know that, if you're not even totally sure of your own name?" he asked her.
She sighed, and took out the note. Handing it to him, she said, "I have to base my entire life off an anonymous note"
He read it over, interest looming in his eyes, "So, you're putting your life in the hands of a stranger?"
She nodded, "And you think you've had it bad"
"I'll come!"
She looked up at him, "Okay, but one question"
"Okay, what?"
"How do you people get so short?"
He rolled his eyes at her, saying as he did it, "I drank a shrinking potion."
She laughed, "That would explain a lot of things! Say, what's your name, anyways?"
"Smas." He said, "Yours?"
"Katrina."
And they were on their way.
