I walked up to the large brick building and grunted angrily. I watched as the teenagers poured in and out of the building like wild animals. My long pony tail and bangs sifted freely in the blowing wind. I began to walk down the sidewalk towards the building making loud thumps with my black combat boots. The chains connected to my baggy black and neon green pants jingled playfully. I felt people's eyes on me as I approached the building. I ignored them pushing my way through a small group of blondes chatting and giggling. Their chatting and giggling seized and they gazed at me.
"Yo b***h!" A voice shrieked. I turned around slowly to see it as one of the giggling blondes I just walked pass. "Yea you! Come back here and apologize for walking straight through us like that!" The girl's voice never changed tone and her face was red with anger. I gave her a blank stare and turned back around. "Hey! I'm talking to you!" I walked into the building ignoring her calls.
I walked around the lobby and found myself in the main office. I stood still in my spot as a man in a grey business suit and combed back grey hair walk up to me slowly.
"Hello." He greeted with a smile. His skin folded into wrinkles as he continued to smile. "You must be our new student." He pushed his hand forward. I glanced at it and took it into my own. I shook it before letting it go. "It's nice to meet you." He said, still smiling. I gave a small smile but it disappeared into my black expression quickly. "Don't talk much do you?" He asked, his eyes sparkling with curiosity. My silence answered his question and his smile grew brighter. His smile started to creep me out. It's just…too bright.
The sound of a bell ringing filled my ears. It made want to cringe but I held it back best I could.
"Third period has started." He said and turned to the secretary sitting at a nearby desk working on some papers. "May I please have Tamika Sprite's schedule, Mrs. Sanchez." He calmly ordered and the woman grabbed a sheet of paper fresh out of the printer and handed it to the old man. She went back to her work. The man turned back to me still with the same bright smile. Oh how that smile creeped me out. "I'll escort you to your third period class." He walked passed me to the office door and I fallowed slowly. He walked out glancing down at the paper in his fingers. "Math A year two." He muttered with a pondering tone. I fallowed him as he turned a corner and began to climb a set of stairs leading up to another hallway. Students stared at us from their lockers as we passed them. I paid no attention to them and the old man stopped in front of a closed door. The door had three big, white, bold numbers on it, 196. He opened the door and walked on in. I fallowed seeing a heavy-set teacher trying to quiet the raging teens.
The principal cleared his throat and the room suddenly got really silent. Creepy.
"Oh, Principal Alito." The heavy-set man sang when he looked over at us. "How are you doing this morning?"
My eyes went over the math posters stapled to the walls then over the silent students. I recognized the blonde from before. She caught my gaze and muttered something to the boy next to her. He's a big built jock. He had on his team jacket…at the end of September!? When it's still about seventy degrees out!
"I'm fine Mr. Wilson. We do have a new student with us today." My eyes shot away from the stupid blonde to the two men standing in front of me.
"Well hello, you must be Tamika."
I said nothing.
"She's not a big speaker." Principal Alito muttered.
"I see. Well welcome anyway. You may take the seat behind Linda." He said happily as he gestured to the blonde. I rolled my eyes walking to the empty desk after taking my schedule away from the principal. The blonde scowled at me as I passed and attempted to trip me but I stepped over her leg shooting her a dirty look. I sat down in the desk while putting my black Disturbed messenger bag on the floor. The principal walked out and Mr. Wilson began his lesson on fractions.
'I really hate this. Why did we have to move here?' I thought as I was taking out a notebook and a pencil and began to doodle in it. 'And that damned blonde in front of me. Linda, eh?' I jotted her name in my neat handwriting. 'That b***h is in for a surprise if she starts any s**t with me.'
