Gina stared at her phone with a rather dubious look, thoughts racing about her head as the device seemed to get heavier and heavier in her hands.
Call her, Belias had ordered her in a smooth drawl that sounded like apathy but in all honesty meant danger. 'Call her', like Gina was still a part of his stupid ragtag team of teenagers.
The--now junior girl--shuddered. It wasn't often that she felt so...
Weird.
She wanted to disobey. She wanted to ignore Belias, wanted to ignore him and the track record he was slowly acquiring. (With Jack no less, and where had the two of them learned such horrible talents Gina really didn't want to know.) She nearly put her phone away, but something in her head -- a flash of words, 'RED DAVIS KILLED IN CAR CRASH' -- made her freeze.
Ian was not around. The two of them had gotten into another fight again. The pretense of happiness had been fake and both of them knew it, but they had carried on with it until Gina exploded.
It had felt good. Better than expected. Maybe she had been right about change and people and how the world worked. Maybe Gina should call her.
A press of her button had the phone switched back on and a stroke of Gina's thumb sent her contact list flying into her favorites and
A scream, so loud Gina could hear it from her house. The house next door. Someone yelling, no, two people yelling, furious neighbors who Gina would have never thought to hear angry. Something about lawsuits.
With a new reason to drop her phone, Gina did.
(but with a name in her mind and worry in her heart and really why would Belias ask Gina to call her)
