"It must be nice to have parents who are around and, you know, not evil."
Aran paused, looking up from playing with the toy truck. Dirty blonde eyebrows furrowed in confusion as she stared up at the teen boy squatting beside her. He looked to be about fifteen, a curly haired youth that looked fairly docile if it wasn't for the abundance of skull and feather jewelry he was wearing.
"My parents eat people, Basil." Aran replied, blue eyes staring at the youth rather dryly. Basil's own dark brown eyes looked away in slight distress, placing a chocolate colored hand behind him to lean back against.
"Oh, eating people isn't so bad!" He exclaimed, ruffling his hair a little before his fingers accidentally collided with one of the skull ornaments in his hair. "You should try it."
"Th-that's cannibalism!" Aran wailed, pointing at him accusingly. The small girl pouted heavily, truck now forgotten beside her as she leaned towards Basil. Basil blinked, ruffling his hair again.
"Oh yeah." He nodded, a bit subdued. "That is pretty evil."
"I dunno what you're always whining about, 'asil." Aran mumbled, voice high as she went back to playing with the truck. "Your parents are pretty nice! Your mom makes the best cookies and she even gave me this brooch!" Aran fished in her pocket and held up a rather ominous looking brooch, voice full of pride. It appeared to be a frozen spider, shell glittering like a gem.
Basil shivered at the sight of it; the boy had a bit of a fear of spiders. "You don't get it, Aran! They're evil! Don't you know there is nothing more wicked then a witch and a necromancer?! Just yesterday my dad resurrected my granduncle to ask him where he left his money!!"
"Well that's a pretty reasonable question to ask." Aran remarked, giving a little sympathetic nod of her head. Basil had to resist grabbing her by her shoulders, knowing that the moment he touched her was the moment he was probably going to be sliding down one of her guardian's throats.
"He's dead, Aran!"
"So is the mister Bent ate last week." Aran replied coolly.
Basil shut up.
