People were baked pies, the type only old women like Petunia could make.
Hard tough crusts on the outside, yet with one forceful jab and their crust broke to reveal gooey insides. You would be tricked into thinking that you'd have to stab your fork into them super hard, only to break the entire crust!
Thomas wondered if humans tasted like cherry pies. Petunia wouldn't let him find out.
He was in the middle of explaining this when he realized Petunia had laid down another plate of apple pie next to him. He gave a little curious blink, shoving another forkful of pie and downing a bit more lemonade before pointing at it.
"Are you going to be eating pie too, Gran'ma?" Thomas asked between bites, trying to finish up his pie as fast as possible so he could go back outside. Petunia laughed a bit, shaking her head.
"Ah, no. We're going to have a new little visitor staying with us! Perhaps you know Molly...?"
Thomas scrunched up his nose, chewing slowing down for a moment. He remembered a girl angrily stomping by the house more than once. After a moment he quickly shook his head, setting his fork down and swinging his body off the chair he was perched in.
"Aren't you going to stay for a little and wait for her?" Petunia asked, raising an eyebrow at Thomas wiping his hands on his pants. The little boy tilted his head up to give a cheeky little grin at his beloved grandmother.
"There isn't any time for that! I have to check the ants!"
With a quick squeeze to Petunia's legs, Thomas raced out of the door.
