Prowling though the jungle dark
His senses, razor keen
The King of Beasts seeks out his prey
When suddenly is seen
A shadow rustling in the grass
A furry, chartreuse snack
And faster than the eye can blink
The King of Beasts, attacks
His heartbeat pounding in his ears
King Waffles races on
Deaf to Lanzer's anguished cry's
And just like that, he's gone.
"Oh Waffles, please come back to me"
"Don't leave me all alone"
"Those Grunny's don't taste good at all"
"They're mostly fur and bone!"
But Lanzer's calls all go unheard
And he is left to stand
His heart as lost and empty
As the leash held in his hand
Capricious cat, where have you gone?

While in the park one day
I crouched and cooed "Come here, sweet boy"
But Waffles ran away.
And yet he never went too far.
As if this all was play.
And moments later, he returned.
Perhaps, this time to stay.
I slowly reached my fingers out,
As if to gently say,
"Young Waffles, I mean you no harm"
But Waffles ran away.
Oh fickle cat, why do you toy
With me so in this way?
I only want to take you home.
Life's hard when you're a stray.
And nearby on a hard park bench
Awash in dire dismay
Poor Lanzer fights back bitter tears.
And Waffles runs away.
You are a cruel and selfish kitty Waffles !
