(( What ever happened to Hearts at the end of the day? A look on what might have happened. ))
The queen sighed as she reappeared before her mirror in her room. She smiled tiredly at her reflection, and at the form she knew would look like a grin behind her.
"That was so much fun, Hearts!" Chesherr exclaimed behind her, giggling. The queen smiled a little as she lightly touched her hair, fixing a stray.
"Thank you for the game, Chesherr." She replied, smoothing out the crinkles in her dress. Hearts stared at her perfect reflection in the mirror, and put a crown on her head, forcing herself to gain the haughty spark in her eyes that she had perfected.
"It was nice to finally meet those three that you always talked about, especially since I have to leave now." Hearts added in, pulling out her fan. She felt the same hollow ache that had filled her before, though it felt a little dulled now.
Chesherr giggled behind her, though it sounded a tad unsure. "Do you....really have to go, Rose?"
Rose gave out a tinkly laugh, though it was bitter and tired. She nodded, turning to face Chesherr. "It's the time for this chess piece to play her part, Chesherr. If that means sacrificing myself, then I shall do it. There is nothing left for me on this world anyways."
Chesherr's grin faded a little, though the air didn't have any danger in it.
"We'll play again, right?"
Rose smiled, this one real and sweet. All she had left was Chesherr, after all... "Of course, Chesherr."
Chesherr's grin regained some of it's regular creepy brightness.
"Well then, it's your time to shine Rose! Enjoy your sleep!"
Rose turned to the doorway, nodding as the crescendo of the music played arched dramatically. It would all go to plan...
With her head tilted high, Rose looked as regal and elegant as the character she had perfected. The queen, beautiful and thorny. Yet as she felt the pain go through her side as she appeared at the Grand Staircase, Rose's facade slipped.
The king rose up with a dramatic clamor, eyes filled with shock and grief that Rose knew he would never truly feel. People rushed, and Rose locked eyes with the assassin as he let himself be caught.
She let out a tired smile as she felt her vision blur into the sweet, warm darkness. It felt as if a blanket was covering her, smothering her breath. She couldn't even see the King's face staring down at her, begging her to not close her eyes.
All she saw was his face, looking down on her next to the King's. Ah yes, it was becoming more defined as the king's own face blurred... Rose reached up to touch her love's hand, and felt herself slip away.
The confines of death, black and warm clung onto her, never letting her go. Yet at the same time, the chains bounding her finally snapped, unable to hold at the persistent grip of death.
At the same time Rose saw darkness, black and everlasting, she saw light. Blinding and beautiful...
Rose laughed, a true sound free from all bounds as she felt his hand against hers. She turned to smile at Chesherr in his true form. Chesherr smiled brightly at the happy couple and he waved before fading away.
This was the end.
Rose didn't even hear the agonized, sincere scream of her name from the king as she left with her love.
