"Pie Jesu. Pie Jesu. Pie Jesu domine. Pie Jesu. Pie Jesu, dona eis requiem." The song drifted through the air heavy with sorrowful mourns. In the large oak casket lay Coraline in a forever peaceful slumber. Her once lively eyes now shut. The usual pink of her cheeks, drained. A lifeless body, hands wraped in beads, dressed in an ominous black dress. No more did her chest slowly rise and fall while she breathed. Her face was painted fake colors to look as if she were still alive, but it failed. The room was emptied; only the old-fashioned record player remained, playing over the sorrowful song. "Agnus dei. Agnus dei qui tolis pecca ta mundi. Agnus dei. Agnus dei! Dona eis. Dona eis. Requiem. Requiem. Requiem!" Outside the wondow stood a shadowed figure. The figure entered the room, calling to the lifeless woman. "Coraline," it said softly. "Coraline," it repeated. "Rise up Coraline." Coraline's body jumpped, a sharp breath of air filled the now live lungs. She coughed painfully, her heart pounding shallow in her chest. "What's..." she began, barely audible. "Where am I?" Her blurry vision cleard and settled upon the figure. "Coraline," it called softly, "It's nice to see you alive, Coraline." She felt her now-beating heard skip a beat. "A-alive? Who.. who're you?" The figure stepped into the dim light. "You've not reconized me? A shame. Don't worry." He assured her, smiling softly. Two dull canine teeth hid behind his lips, not to be shown. She nodded, unable to stay focused. The man before her looked familar, but from where? Memories poured into her mind, each one revealing the man. "Beautiful," he said softly, almost a wisper. He placed a gentle yet lingering kiss on her lips before removing his own mask. Those eyes, eyes to deep, they looked almost inhuman. The night of the ball! She stared at him, bewildered. Her heart began to beat hard as every breath of air she took in became harder and harder. "You're.." she stopped herself. "Shhh," the man said, "we've come to meet again. The song was beautiful. Sing more for me?" She could only look at him in terror. Silent tears began to fall down her face. "P-please.." she shut her eyes hard, wishing to wake up. "This must be a..."
She sat up quickly, cold sweat dripping down her forehead. She gasped, a sharp intake of cool air. Softly the music from her radio played in the darkness. Tears streaked down her face uncontrollably. "Dream." she muttered. A sad smile formed upon her lips. She sobbed to the music, "Pie Jesu, dona eis requiem." The song ended in a soft hum.
The song is actually a Latin song called "Pie Jesu". A requiem for those who've died.
