You know you're too obsessed with music when you start crying when you hear an old song you never thought you'd hear again because its by a really obscure 80's Japanese rock band. I'm talking of course about the band Scanch, of which it is SO HARD to find anything of their's online. I don't mean a little tear. I mean rolling sobs where after the song is finished your eyes are in your hands and you cry there for a few minutes in total euphoric happy sobs. The song is off of their album Sweets, of which I had a very long time ago but NOT ANYMORE because of that damn...damn...ex... They do seem to be popular, just not overseas, so the availability is very slim. The only CD I can find online for buying is Scanch Best which is still wonderful and has many of my favorites on there, plus it comes with a DVD. Btw, I don't buy from eBay because they're usually not trusted distributors. You never know when you're getting a fake. With today's technology its so easy to make something look EXACTLY like the original. I'd only buy from eBay if I can get a conversation going with the seller and began to trust them. Or, in Scanch's case, when I can't take it anymore and will buy an all out fake just to hear the precious music once more.
Anyway, I was searching for Scanch songs today and happened upon an article that told me my favorite member of Scanch (Shima-Chang) had fallen down her home's stairs last year and suffered a very bad brain injury. She didn't die (thank the heavens), but is in a wheelchair now and is recovering with rehab. The rest of Scanch (with a guest bassist, of course) reuinted over December and January to raise money for Shima-Chang in a reunion tour. I wish I could have gone, not only for the experience but also to give money to the cause.
Scanch is in my top 5 of all time favorite bands. ALL TIME. Due to their rare music availability, I've only heard about 5 of their albums. However, I love every song I've heard and yearn for more. I love their quirky-ness. I love that many of their songs seem to start with "Koi no/wa" for some reason. I love that Rolly has got to be the most hyper-active J-rocker ever. I love that their PV for Usotsuki is borderline racist. I love how unashamed they are of their obvious influences. I love everything about them. I can't wait to hear more from them.
Some favorites that are miraculously on Youtube:
Koi no Romantic Boogie
Love Love Holiday
Namida no Tenkousei
Ultra Rocketman
Koi no T.K.O
Koi wa BOMBER
Koisuru no Mari Lu
Pechika
Kimi no Inai Radio Station
Usotsuki
Retaman

Btw, I first got into Scanch because I saw Rolly in the movie "The Suicide Club". I can't give you a clip because the scene was decidedly naughty (he was singing on a throne in the middle of a room where girls were getting raped and killed and singing an quite evil little song). I was like, "that's a J-rocker, not an actor O.O" and I went on an 7 YEAR QUEST for him. You see, it was hard because his name is Rolly which is a very common word in English. As the years passed, more J-rock became readily available. However, it took my sister going to Osaka to find his band Scanch, which started in Osaka. One day she contacts me over Gaia and goes, "look! I like this band!" and presents me with the PV for "Pechika" and I flipped the ******** out because there he was! I never looked back.
