Today's journal is a rant!! *insert crowd cheering here*About the movie Beastly, coming soon to theatres near you....
Beastly is a retelling of Beauty and the Beast. The book of the same title by Alex Flinn, was well done. But after only seeing the trailer, I can tell you that the movie is not of the same caliber. You may ask: "What's wrong with it? What is this film missing?" Answer: The beast. Kinda an important character, don't you think?!! The book describes him as "A beast. Not quite wolf or gorilla or dog, but a horrible new creature with fangs, claws, and hair springing from every pore. I am a walking monster." (You don't even have to read the book to find this. It's on the back cover.) So how does the movie choose to depict him?
How he looks in the movie (having trouble with putting an image here, so you get a link instead)
A bald guy with scars and tattoos. Vaguely disturbing to some people, yes. Ugly? Not really. Somewhat close to the description of the book? No. Holds true to the idea that the character is ugly, scary, etc? No.
All in all, I'm disappointed. I really love the book. I sincerely reccomend it, especially to fans of fairytales. But as for the movie...first impressions do not bode well.
