So Tron. First off, I loved the fact that this was a sequel instead of a reboot. I loved that the people making it were clearly crazy about the original film, and that the look and feel of the grid was spot on. It amused me that they used 3-d like wizard of OZ used colour, as did the design references to Oz. There were some absolutely lovely things, like the way the women in white looked and moved and "Zeus." The first half of the movie was pretty good. But there were problems, oh there were problems. Despite the length, the end seemed very rushed. There were all these bizarre loose ends, and things shot to look like foreshadowing that petered off into nothing, and the lack of viable grid culture, like accounting programs and the like. There were the logical flaws. Then there was the shortage of Tron. It seemed like there was this whole other better movie to be made of the loose ends, like sausage, perhaps about putting the culture back together after the apocalypse at the end of the movie. In summary, Squirrel and I had a good time anyway, but the thing did rather fall apart towards the end. It's as pretty as anyone could wish, and there was fun to be had, but it's flawed as hell, and we'd rather have seen the movie that came after this one in the narrative than this actual movie.
I do hope they put out a 2-D version soon for folks who can't do three d, but at least for this film, the 3-d made design sense rather than feeling tacked on.
