So I was randomly thinking about carbon sinks today right? I said it was random.
Anyway, what bugs me about that is, they want to like, freeze large chunks of carbon dioxide solid in glaciers or bury it underground. These are solutions to greenhouse gasses and global warming and such that have been celebrated as totally good ideas and all the rage, scientific break throughs, etc.
But I'm thinking, this is only a temporary fix, how is this such a good idea?
At some point the solid form is going to start taking up space and building up, right? And what happens if there's an accident and it all gets rapidly released back again at once?
Even worse, it could be a new form of terrorism! The threat of releasing large ammounts of carbon emissions and causing immidite dangerous climte shift or toxic air could be a serious threat! All they'd have to do is get a hold of one of these chunks and the means to manipulate it. I mean, if they're crazy rnough to kill themselves, their loved ones, and countless innocent people as it is for their ideals, what would stop them from destroying more of the world if not it all? They're already crazy and full of hate if they're viewing terrorism as a rational and correct means of action.
So I ask, are carbon sinks really the way to go? They don't seem very well thought out to me. But perhaps I don't understand the concept well enough to make that judgement..
It was just a thought.
