So I watched Citizen Kane. I'm not anything close to a film student, but I've watched a lot of films from that period and I can see how innovative it is is it's design, cinematography, editing, etc.. I can see all kinds of ways it's still influencing film making. It's beautifully shot, to the pint i wish i could see it on the big screen so I could get the full effect of the multi-layered effects. The acting is excellent. It's still not my sort of thing and I'm not convinced it's the best film ever made despite all the claims it is. There is a difference between well made/innovative/influential and all around best, if that makes sense. I certainly does belong on important films lists, and despite some things that were a squidge dated, it stands the test of time, but it's not enough for me in a variety of hard to put into words ways. I'm glad it wasn't destroyed; I'm sorry it destroyed Orson wells and Marian Davies.
