Alastar
I walked away from the dying body of Lilith completely focused on the body of Victoria. Her breathing was ragged and she was bleeding profusely, but she was alive, for now, and that was all that mattered. I touched her cold cheek surveying what had become of her since she had run away from the palace.
Her dress was in tatters and she was dirty. She had gash marks all along her body that looked like an animal had ripped her apart. she was paler than normal and her eyes were swollen and had dark circles. I suspect mostly from crying since she has dirt marks rubbed and running from her eyes. Her face was also bleeding and swollen with bruises.
I gently slipped my hands under her and lifted her up. I started for the door to see a figure leaning against the frame. I recognised her, the white hair pulled up in rings, the intricate markings, and the trinket in her hair.
"Retsu, allow me to pass" She nodded walking towards me, "Alastar, you've killed my daughter. Just for that girl? Well, she must be important." I tensed as she came even closer. "Relax, you have not angered me, I won't kill you. My daughter was weak, and closed minded. She would rather the old Hell, than the evolving one." She was right in front of me. She lightly touched a strand of Victoria's hair then holding my chin she spoke again, "Be careful where you tread. Oh, and send Hades my regards." She traced a finger along my jaw then walked on.
I quickly left the house and extended my wings again once outside. I flew out of the shadowlands towards the palace. Victoria did not stir as we flew. I buried my face into her hair for a moment. How could I let all of this happen to her?
We landed in the courtyard and I moved swiftly to her room, trying hard not to stir her. The servants came quickly to take her to the bath. I waited in the corridor outside of her room.
Once she was bathed, bandaged and dressed I was allowed in. She had yet to awaken and had been put in her bed. She had her pretty blonde hair combed and dried. She wore a light cotton white nightie. She was heavily bandaged, but otherwise she appeared to be sleeping peacefully.
I stayed by her side the whole night, never leaving. She slept through the next day too. I only left when I was pushed out so they could change her bandages. I was drifting between sleeping and being awake when she finally woke up.
Her eyes slowly fluttered open and she slowly took in her surroundings. I immediatly perked up moving in closer to her. "A-Alastar? W-what happened?" I was filled with joy that she was ok. I pulled her into a gentle hug careful of her wounds.
"You were passed out from the wounds Lilith had inflicted upon you. I defeated her though, and brought you back to the palace. You have been asleep for a whole day and night." I gently kissed her hand. "I was so worried when you ran away. I couldn't eat or sleep until I knew you were safe."
She stared at me silently then looking surprised she stated, "You were here next to me this whole time?" I nodded, "And you saved me from that woman and the monsters?" I nodded again and her eyes were fresh with tears and she covered her mouth in surprise. "Oh Alastar I'm so sorry!" She turned her face away from me.
I pressed her hand to my cheek, "No, don't be, I shouldn't have ended your life." She simply cried into my shoulder and we didn't say anything more until she fell asleep.
I slept by her bed on the floor listening to her breathing. I was awoken suddenly. Victoria was trying tp pick me up and had a pained look on her face. "Victoria what's wrong?" She blushed, "I wanted to put you in the bed. I didn't feel right leaving you on the floor. Plus it's a big bed, it won't be crowded, just don't sleep on the floor." I smiled and touched her cheek, "You shouldn't strain yourself, but if you insist I will."
First lifting her up I set her down pulling the covers back on her. "Your right though, these beds are huge, never understood why. Grandfather always seem to like beds big." I laughed then got into the collosal bed that could comfortably fit ten people. I put enough space between us then settled down. "Now sleep and heal fast." I fell asleep before her.
I was awake before her too, When she woke I was rushed out again for her bandages to be changed. When I came back we talked about her journey through hell. I pulled her to my chest, "I'm sorry you had to see all that." She fell silent then spoke again, "Alastar I'm healing fast aren't I? I saw when I was being bandaged, and they poured something over my wounds."
"The body you have has demonic properties, which means fast healing; however, you do not have demonic powers to activate you fast healing. That's what the serum is for, to initiate fast healing. Judging by how bad your wounds were I say a day or two more and you should be fine."
She nodded still pressed against my chest. "Alastar, I'm really sorry for running away. I, I didn't think you actually cared about me, or that what I left behind, was better forgotten." I pressed my face in her hair, "Do not blame yourself too harshly. I took you away from the one you love." I was forced to remember her infactuation with the boy.
I felt a pain in my chest as I loosened my grip and slid my arms away. I moved to get up, she would never want me anyway, she loved hm. I had tried to force her feelings to love me, but I could not replace him.
"No, please don't leave me. I don't want to be alone." She surprised me and I moved back to where I was. I couldn't tell what she was thinking. Soon the servants brought in food and fussed until I agreed to eat something too.
"Master you haven't eaten in days, your losing strength." Victoria turned her awed expression to me again. "Alastar, you haven't been eating?" I accepted the food and sent away the servants then nodded to her. "How long?" I thought and looking at her she hadn't eaten either. "For as long as you haven't eaten I suppose. So that's five days now."
"Oh, Alastar, you have to eat!" I laughed, "You sound like the servants, besides so do you, so shush and eat." She blushed then started eating. I ate my food too, it felt good to have something in my stomach. I took to watching her and not leaving her side. I ignored my father's summons, laying in the bed beside her. Like predicted within three days she was healed.
"Alastar I'm all better now, so go deal with all your work you have been neglecting." I was reluctant to leave, I never wanted to be away from her. Besides all I was late on was the daily checks and my watching of the mortal world. Which I did not care for them, I did not intend to take the throne, I would probably give it back to grandfather.
There was a knock at the door, Victoria called out for them to come in. In came Corrine, my sister. "Alastar! Here you are, everyone wondered why you have had such a noticeable absence. Ah I see, you have retreived the girl. Good, I was afraid you would lose your sanity. Oh! I'm afraid we have yet to be introduced, I'm Corrine, Alastar's sister."
Corrinne shook Victoria's hand. My sister had white hair with bright pink streaks all through it and wore a white lacy dress with a bodice tied tightly. Corrine, related by father, but different mother. She was full demon, where I was only half. We were as different as night and day most of the time.
Victoria looked confused, "Sister?" I smiled leaning against the wall, "Don't worry we're nothing alike. She's mostly just a pain in the neck. Completely odd, eccentric and over the top. Or as mother puts it, unique, which is a nice way of saying freak" She threw me an angry, but playful look. "Well, being unique is alot better than being a lazy, slacking, silly, wierdo!" I laughed, "Doubt it!"
We were stopped by a laugh. Victoria was laughing, and it was music to my ears. It was the first real laugh I had heard since she had come to the palace. She realised we were staring at her and she stopped blushing.
"Oh my gosh I love this girl! Alastar shame on you for hiding her from everyone!" With that she was tackling Victoria with a hug. "I know we must have a big dinner for you, with everyone there, and I'll dress you up! Oh, please brother, please show her to everyone? I'm sure they would love her instantly if you did, even father."
"That is up to Victoria. If she agrees, you will do all the work of setting it up. Let me warn you Victoria, she always goes over the top." Victoria thought for a moment, "It sounds like fun." I smiled as Corrine cheered with glee. "Alastar, please don't worry about me anymore, I'll spend my time in the library. You should catch up on your work so you don't get in trouble." Reluctantly I agreed and left after holding Victoria in my arms promising to come back soon as I could.
I walked into the corridor and Corrine followed. "Wait brother!" I paused for her to reach me. "So you seem serious about her, does she return your feelings?" I looked on, "I don't know, but it seems doubtful, since she knows it was my order that killed her. Plus she had a love interest in the mortal world".
I started walking again, "I see, but she looks at you with intensity. Either way there are family members that approve for your happiness, but others are still doubtful. If you truly are serious and she returns your feelings, then she may be queen of hell one day, which many of hell I'm sure disapprove."
"Corrine, I've told you before, I will not take the throne. I do not wish to be a lord, or king or rule anything. I do what I do to please father, but Hades will eventually receive the throne again. Unless you decide you want the throne."
"No way, too much responsibility", she replied with distaste. I stopped at the end of the hall looking at the door to father's office. "Oh, I should tell dad about the dinner!" I rolled my eyes and walked up and knocked on the door.
"Come in." I pushed the dark wooden door open, Corrinne trailing in behind me. "Alastar you've finally decided to show your face. How many times do I have to summon you to do your job? Laziness and slacking is not tolerated, I expect all of your inspections done by today. No excuses." I nodded my head and left the room.
