I've been reading Let Me In, the book on which the movie Let the Right One is was based. It's not for the delicate of stomach. What fascinates me, is that the grimness and violence associated wit the supernatural element here is only slightly more grim and horrific than the background day to day life depicted here. The book is significantly more gritty about the ordinary brutality and despair of suburban life, than the movie. I do think the movie did a good job of adapting the book, and the changes they made made sense to me, as a lot of the more complicated bits wouldn't have translated well or made a much longer movie. The book answered many of the questions I had after the movie and the two versions do well as independent pieces of art. Seriously though, if you are planning to read the book, steel yourself for extreme violence and depressing things.
