Prologue
A young girl was announcing herself to the class. She had short black hair and red crimson eyes. “My name is Night, Night Ookami.” She had said. Many students barely bothered to listen except one person.
It was another girl close to Night’s age. She too had short black hair but her eyes were a light black color. When Night sat down on the empty desk next to her, she turned in her seat. “Hi! My name’s Ashley but everyone calls me NiNie.” She said with her hand outstretched. Night looked at her hand warily before shaking it with her own hand. “I’m surprised you’re talking to me. Do you know what exactly I am?” Night asked her. NiNie smiled, her fangs slightly showing. “Oh, don’t worry. I’m not exactly human either. Welcome to Yokai Academy. The home for the supernatural.”
Night smiled, her wolf fangs protruding. “Well, at least I know I’m in the right place.” She replied.
Chapter 1
Night was standing on the front doorway of Yokai Academy. She hated her family for suggesting that she went there. She remembered the argument just before she entered the gate.
Night’s mother had been preparing the blood donor for dinner. Night wandered into the house after a long night at the school. “How was school today Night?” her mother had asked. Night sat down at the kitchen table before she replied. “It was fine, I guess.” She mumbled. Her mother turned towards her wary. “Please don’t tell me you got into another fight during school.”
“Yeah, I did. It’s not my fault that they’re humans.” Night had replied.
After that Night and her mother got into a heated argument to the point where Night nearly attacked the blood donor.
“That’s it!!” her mother yelled. “You are going to Yokai Academy whether you like it or not!”
Dragged back to the present, a lady was walking down the steps. She looked young but Night could sense that she was older than she seemed, far older. She was dressed in red and had red hair. She opened the gate and looked at Night with a smile.
“Welcome to Yokai Academy. I am the headmistress here. Headmistress Mitsuru.” She said. “Please follow me.”
Night shrugged and picked up her bags.
Mitsuru led Night down the winding hallways to her office. Already a boy was waiting there. Night sniffed the air and could place him as a fellow vampire. Night pushed enough hair out of her face and got a good look at him.
He had black hair with blood red tips. She couldn’t tell what color his eyes were because his hair covered his face. His skin was as pale as Night’s and as smooth as marble. He was wearing a black trench coat and black jeans.
Mitsuru noticed him standing there and gave him a nod.
“Ah yes. Just who I was planning to see.” She exclaimed. “Lance, do you mind asking Mr. Doki if he has enough room in his busy schedule to fit Night in?”
Lance shook his head and looked straight at Night.
“No, I don’t mind.” He answered. His voice was like music to Night’s ears. It had a melody telling of a dark past and a hopeful future. Lance bowed to Mitsuru before taking his leave.
“He was nice.” Commented Night in a bored tone. All Mitsuru did was nod before opening the door to her office. Night sat down in a chair in front of Mitsuru’s desk while Mitsuru went through her filing cabinet. “Ah, here we go.” She exclaimed when she pulled out a folder with Night’s name printed on it.
She sat at her desk and opened the file. “So you are a vampire wolf demon?” asked Mitsuru. Night nodded. “And you also have a problem with humans.” She read out loud. Night’s eyes flashed with anger and Mitsuru noticed. “Are you unable to keep away from human blood?” she asked.
Night sighed, not really wanting to answer. “Sometime… Only if I hadn’t fed for a couple of days.” Night replied.
“What is it that you usually feed off of?”
“Animals, mostly deer.” Night said.
Mitsuru nodded and jotted that down. “All right. Your roommate’s name is NiNie. She will show you around campus. And to make sure you feed regularly I’m allowing you access to the courtyard. No one will be allowed to go there unless they have your permission.”
Night nodded and got up to leave. Mitsuru handed Night her school schedule.
1st period: Demonic History
2nd period: Weaponry
3rd period: How to speak wolf
4th period: Lunch
5th period: Horse training
6th period: How to transform into animal self
2nd period: Weaponry
3rd period: How to speak wolf
4th period: Lunch
5th period: Horse training
6th period: How to transform into animal self
Night knew that her third period class would be easy. She already knew how to speak wolf fluently, and it almost sounded like growls and barks to humans.
Night almost ran into Lance on her way to the girl’s dorm. All of Night’s things went tumbling out of her arms and bags and onto the floor. Lance knelt down to help her pick up her things. “You o.k.?” he asked in the wolf language. ‘He must think I can’t understand English.’ She thought to herself. “Yes I’m fine.” She said in plain English. Lance jumped back in surprise.
“Well I better report back to Lady Mitsuru. See ya.” He left waving at her while running. Night blushed a little but soon found her stuff tumbling to the ground again. A large scent of werewolf hit her and she looked up. A red haired girl was smirking at her. “Oops, I’m sorry. Oh, wait… No I’m not.” She got up close to Night and sneered. “You best stay away from Lance, he’s out of your league.”
The girl laughed and walked away laughing. Night was seething and closed her eyes. She hadn’t fed in over two days and she wanted to find her dorm quickly. She gathered her things and started walking past doors that had strange symbols etched into them.
She found a door that said ‘NiNie’ in the cat language. Right underneath that was Night’s name etched into the wood in the wolf language.
Night knocked on the door and a large yowl was heard. Crash soon followed and when Night turned to look down the hallways to see if anyone heard, the door suddenly opened. A hand came out of the door and pulled Night inside. Night tumbled into the middle of the room and quickly turned around.
A girl about Night’s height looked at her with a smile. She had short black hair that covered half her face. Recognition flashed on both Night’s and the girl’s face.
“What do you know? Well, if it isn’t Night from last year?” said the girl with a big smile.
“Hey, it’s nice to see you too NiNie. How’s Yokai?” asked Night.
Ninie smiled and shrugged. She went to a lamp and picked it up.
“Sorry about the mess.” She said. “I kind of knocked some stuff around when you knocked. I was sort of expecting you at a later hour.”
Night nodded. Her mother had dropped her off slightly early.
“That’s fine. I’m going to go feed after I get my stuffed unpacked.” Explained Night.
NiNie nodded. “Vampire?”
“Vampire wolf demon.” Replied Night.
“Cat demon.”
Night smiled. She shook her head and wolf ears appeared on her head. She snapped her fingers and her tail shimmered into appearance. Her ears and tail were black with blood-red tips.
She opened her bag and pulled out a stuffed animal.
“Nice plush.” Commented NiNie.
Night nodded back at her and placed the wolf plush on top of her pillow. She placed her bags on the bed and closed her eyes. With a flick of her wrist all of Night’s things flew out of the bag and into the appropriate position on her side of the room.
NiNie stared in astonishment and quickly blinked. She plopped down onto her bed.
“No wonder you didn’t ask for help.” Said NiNie.
Night just shrugged and walked to the door. Night turned her head to look at NiNie. “I’m going to the courtyard. You can come by later if you want.”
With that Night left.
Chapter 2
Night entered the courtyard and looked around. A lone sakura tree stood by itself in the middle of the clearing. She heard a low growl by the tree.
Night quickly turned to the source. It growled again. “What do you want, intruder?”
It clearly spoke in wolf, which meant it was a wolf. Night raised her hands to show that she meant no harm. She let out a series of barks and growls which meant, “Don’t worry brother. I have been granted access here by the headmistress.”
The wolf cocked its head to the side, obviously surprised that she could speak wolf. It cautiously crept towards her and stopped two feet away from her. It sniffed the air and growled. “I smell wolf from you. What are you?”
Night nodded and barked. “I am a vampire wolf demon. I mean no harm.”
The wolf nodded and padded up to her. It lowered its head to allow her to pet it, showing her that she had its trust. She knelt down and rubbed its ears. The wolf bounded off into the forest leaving Night alone. She took off her jacket that was the color of dusk.
She scanned the trees with crimson eyes. A movement caught Night’s eye and she pelted after it. She sniffed the air and scented deer. Night smiled form exhilaration. The deer jumped over rocks, trees, and small streams hoping to confuse Night. Even with the deer doing that Night was quickly catching up. She swerved to the left and as the deer jumped over a fallen tree Night lunged.
She grabbed the deer by wrapping her arms around its stomach. She sent the deer soothing thoughts to calm it down. Night bared her fangs and lowered her head. She heard a strong pulse of blood and bit into the artery.
Night heard movement behind her and swiveled her ears. ‘What do you want?’ Night had sent that thought using telepathy. “I didn’t’ mean to disturb your feeding.” Said the person.
Night unlatched herself from the deer and turned around. NiNie was frowning, clearly in a bad mood.
“So you kill animals?” she asked. Night shook her head.
“At least it’s better than feeding on humans.” Said Night softly.
NiNie sighed and gave Night a small smile. “I guess. You done feeding?”
Night nodded. “I need to do something first.”
She stood p and howled. She howled letting the nearby wolves know that there was fresh kill.
“I never let a good meal go to waste.” Explained Night.
Her and NiNie walked back to the courtyard. Upon entering, the wolf from earlier growled at NiNie. Night let out a series of barks to let the wolf know that it was alright for NiNie to be there.
“You going to sleep out here or in the room?” asked NiNie.
Night thought about it for a while before answering. “I’ll sleep out here. I feel more at home in the courtyard for some reason.” NiNie nodded and then yawned.
Night chuckled and gave her a hug. “go get some sleep. I’ll see you tomorrow.”
NiNie nodded and walked through the door that connected the Academy to the courtyard. Night jumped up and climbed into the tree. She leaned back and stared at the crescent moon. She soon closed her eyes and fell asleep.
Around dawn, Night woke up. She jumped down from the tree and stretched.
“You look beautiful when you’re asleep.”
Night jumped back and turned towards Lance. “What are you doing here?” asked Night, her eyes narrowed.
Lance shrugged. “I was talking to Lady Mitsuru. I asked her where you were and she told me either here or in your room with NiNie.” He said. “So I decided to check here first.”
Night nodded. “Ok, that explains how you knew where I was at, but that doesn’t tell me how you were able to enter.”
“What do you mean?” Lance asked confused.
“Only people with my permission are allowed here.” She explained.
“Oh….” Lance had a small smile on his face. Then in a few minutes he starts to laugh. “I should tell you but Lady Mitsuru granted me the same thing. You’re not the only one with feeding problems you know.”
Night stared at him and quickly shook his head. “Sorry, I didn’t know.” She said
Lance shrugged. “It’s alright. It happened last year, but that vampire got killed by some damn vampire hunters.”
Night shuddered. During her time that she went to the human school she had to keep her vampire properties hidden. “They can go ******** themselves for all I care.” Replied Night.
Lance laughed and nodded. “I couldn’t have said it better myself.”
Both Lance and Night laughed. They stayed out in the courtyard talking about random things. The wolf that Night had met the day before came up to Lance and licked him on the face. Lance had named the wolf Shoun, which meant ‘Shadow’ in the wolf language.
They stayed until eight playing wolf games.
Night was walking down the hallways when she ran into NiNie.
“I heard that Lance watched you last night.” She whispered. Night stared at her speechless.
“What? The window was open.” Night breathed a sigh of relief.
“Good, I thought everyone in the Academy knew… It would suck if that red head found out.” Replied Night.
“What did the red head look like?” asked NiNie.
“Well, she had long silky red hair, and some sort of skank outfit on. I think it was a dark purple.” NiNie stared at Night in shock.
“You mean that you met….” Her voice dropped down to a whisper. “Emma?”
Night nodded. “Yeah, I was on the way to our room yesterday and Lance and I ran into each other. He helped me pick up my stuff and ran off to Lady Mitsuru’s office. And the next thing I know is that b***h knocked all my stuff out of my arms. She even told me to stay away from Lance because he was out of my league.”
NiNie didn’t say anything. She looked around and stopped in front of a door. “Well this is Demonic History.” She said opening the door.
Night walked through it and stopped. There were already many demons there. She looked around and found Emma sitting next to Lance. Night made a low growling noise in the back of her throat and followed NiNie towards the back of the class. NiNie sat down next to a guy who seemed to be writing a note.
“Vash, are you writing to Suto again?” asked NiNie.
Vash nodded and drew a couple of heartagrams. NiNie noticed Night’s expression and laughed. “I’m sorry. Vash is gay.” She said.
Vash frowned at her. “Well you didn’t need to say it like that. She’ll think of me as a freak.” He replied.
Night shook her head. “I don’t think of you like that. I’ve always wanted to meet a gay person.” Vash smiled. He turned his head toward the teacher.
“Today during Demonic History we are going to discuss the wolf demons. Who here knows what they do during their spare time?” asked the teacher.
Night looked to see Emma raise her had. “Wolf demons lay around all day.” She said with a sneer.
“I’m sorry but that’s not it. Anyone else?” night raised her hand. The teacher pointed at her and nodded.
“Well they usually go out and hunt. Sometimes for fun but mostly to feed themselves.” She said.
“Go on.” Said the teacher.
Night nodded. “If there is more than one wolf demon then they go and hold competitions. They love to show their skills on hunting, how fast they run, and how well they can fight.”
NiNie and Vash smiled while Emma scowled. Night looked to see if Lance was looking at her, but found him hunched over a piece of paper.
After another fifty minutes of discussing wolf demons the class was finally dismissed.
NiNie and Vash had to go to the ‘how to change into your animal forms’ class so they went in a different direction. Someone tapped Night on the shoulder and her reaction was surprising. She whirled around and knocked the person into the wall. She dropped her things and pounced on him, holding a kunai against his neck.
Chapter 3
Lance had his hands held up with a smile on his face. “Hey, calm down. It’s only me.” He said with a chuckle.
Night got off of him and put the kunai in the folds on her shirt. She gathered her things and started walking towards the weaponry room.
“Hey, wait up!” exclaimed Lance, running to catch up until he was walking besides her. “That was the fastest reaction I’ve ever seen. Where did you learn that move?”
Night shrugged, adrenaline still pumping through her veins. “I was never taught. I had to teach myself. Especially since vampire hunters have been cocky now-a-days.”
Lance nodded. They walked in silence until they arrived at the weaponry class. Lance opened the door and held it open for her. She walked in with a dip of her head.
“Mr. Doki, we’re here.” Announced Lance.
Mr. Doki nearly jumped out of his skin and from what night could see Doki might actually make that possible. Doki was a tall demon with a black and white long sleeved shirt, a pair of plain black jeans, and some type of top hat that matched his shirt. He had long white hair and seemed to be shivering from nervousness.
“P-Please don’t s-sneak u-up on m-me again!” he stammered.
“Sorry about that Mr. Doki.” Apologized Lance.
Night waved at Doki but his reaction wasn’t what she expected. His eyes grew wide and his shivering seemed to worsen.
“B-But I w-was told that s-she is a w-wolf d-demon. N-Not a vampire!” he exclaimed, gesturing to Night’s crimson eyes.
Night narrowed her eyes and growled. “Just once! Just once in my life I wish that people would stop judging me for what I am!” she snarled.
Doki grew deathly pale and made a loud gulping noise. Lance stared at her in shock. Night put down her things and decided to take a look at the blades that leaned against the wall. Doki kept a wary eye on her, while Lance followed her and watched her examine each blade.
Night came across some katanas and pulled one out. It had a black hilt, a black blade, andit had a blood-red chain hanging off of it. She motioned for Lance to give her some room and when he was standing by Doki did she start swinging the blade. She moved as if she was dancing, thrusting the blade in the air. She spun, she jumped, she did many tricks which were completely graceful. When she was done, Doki walked up to her. His shivering had almost stopped and a small smiled was on his face.
“I’m surprised that that katana allowed you to touch it.” Said Doki. “It usually leaves burn marks on the wielders hands.”
Night shrugged and put it back against the wall. “It didn’t feel right for some reason… I can feel an evil, ghastly aura emanating from it.”
“Ah, yes. That particular katana was once used to collect the souls of the people it slain.” Explained Doki. “But I was told by my Sensei that a certain someone would be able to tame the restless souls that reside in that blade.”
Night gave him a weird look. “So you’re saying that I’m that person?”
Doki shrugged his shoulders. “Maybe. Why don’t you keep that blade with you at all times? If you haven’t noticed, several students were wearing weapons.”
Night nodded, remembering Emma having twin blades strapped to her waist. She took hold of the hilt of the katana and felt the same ghastly aura from it. She was half tempted to put it back but she didn’t. Doki gave her a blood red sheath.
“That blade came with this sheath.” He explained. “Well, class is over, so you two might as well go to your next class before you’re late.”
He ushered Lance and Night out the room and closed the door behind them.
“So that katana has a really dark past… Will you be able to handle it?” asked Lance.
Night put the katana in its sheath and strapped it on her side. “Yeah, I’m sure. Since I have a dark past as well, this blade and I are a perfect match.” Said Night softly. She waved good-bye and ran through the hallways. On her way to her third period class, she literally ran into Emma, the Academy’s b***h.
“Hey! Watch where you’re going loser! You could hurt someone.” She sneered.
Night jumped back up and her hand hovered over the katana. “What do you care?”
“You’re right, I don’t.” she said laughing. She walked off in the direction Night was heading. Night growled and said, “******** Ho!” in the wolf language.
Night got back up and ran past Emma. She found the classroom and entered. The classroom looked like a gym and a weight room put together. A large jaguar was standing in front of a crowd of students.
“Ah, yes. Come in.” said the jaguar. It motioned for Night to join the students. NiNie and Vash were standing off to the side and so Night headed towards them.
“Hey Night! Are you ready to learn how to change into an animal?” asked Vash.
Night nodded and noticed a small boy clinging to Vash. Vash noticed Night looking and chuckled a bit.
“Oh, sorry. I forgot to introduce you Night.” He gestures to the boy and he smiled slightly. “Suto, this is Night. Night, this is Suto.”
Night waved and was about to say something when the jaguar started to speak again.
“All right, I want you to spread out and keep facing me.” Immediately all the students separated from each other, giving each other about two feet of space.
“Now close your eyes.” Said the jaguar and all the students closed their eyes. “look deep inside you. An image of an animal should appear.”
Night searched hard within her and an image of a black wolf with red streets in its fur appeared in front of her. It dipped its head and howled. She barely heard the jaguar tell everyone to open their eyes. Night opened her eyes and jumped back a few feet. The jaguar was standing right in front of her with a smile on his face.
“Night job Night. It seems that you, NiNie, Vash, and Suto were the only ones successful.” He commented.
Night turned her head and noticed that she was on all fours in a wolf form. She had black fur with blood-red streaks running through it. She turned to look at NiNie and saw that she was a pure black cat with ice blue eyes. Vash was a white tiger, while Suto was a golden furred lion. All four of them ran up to each other and jumped around.
The jaguar smiled. “Well, class is dismissed. Tomorrow we will try to get the rest of you your animal selves, while Night and the others go to the treadmill to see how fast they can run.” He flicked his tail and everyone left the room. Night, NiNie, Vash, and Suto left together.
“Well, lunch is now….” Began Night.
NiNie nodded with understanding. “Go feed. We’ll see you later.”
Night was searching the woods for prey but she found Lance instead.
“Hey? What are you doing here?” she asked. Lance smiled and took a step towards her.
“I was out hunting too, but the prey don’t seem to be running.” He replied. Night frowned and looked around, even the forest seemed quiet. “I don’t like this… It’s too quiet… Even the birds are quiet.”
Lance frowned and listened to his surroundings. “Yeah, you’re right. Even the bugs aren’t making a sound.”
Night sniffed the air but she couldn’t smell anything but the forest. Her ears twitched at the sounds of leaves ruffling, but she trained them to hear further than that. She closed her eyes and allowed her mind to travel, searching for whatever the cause of the lack of wildlife. In her mind’s eye, she saw a creature that looked like a sphinx but looked more like a basilisk.
Night’s eyes snapped open and she ran into the forest. Lance ran after her, asking her what she saw, but Night wouldn’t answer.
Night stopped in front of a clearing and on the other side was denser and darker. She could smell the creature but she couldn’t hear it.
Lance caught up and looked around. “What is that stench?”
Night growled. “Shush! That thing’s hearing is more acute than ours. If it knows we’re not normal animals it will kill us.” She whispered fiercely.
Lance nodded and shifted into a brown wolf while Night shifted into her wolf form. She crept forward and sniffed the ground; acting like a normal wolf would. She wearily looked around and snorted. She shook her head and howled. Lance trotted up to her and touched her with his nose.
Suddenly a strange hissing sound could be heard along with a loud roar.
Night looked at Lance. “Grawr…growl…grr…hrr…” she said to him in wolf. Lance nodded. “Grrr…grawr…” he replied.
Night had told him to go back into the forest and to wait for her signal. Lance had told her to be careful and not to get away.
Night smiled and watched him trot back into the forest. The hissing got louder and a large tree fell on the far side of the clearing. The trunk nearly squashed Night but it missed her.
The creature roared. Night looked over the tree to get a good look. Its tails were three snakes, it had a lion’s head, a rooster’s head, and a human women’s head. It had the body of a lion but was covered in feathers.
The lion’s head roared again but the women’s head opened its mouth and let out a blood curdling scream.
Night shifted to her human form and tried to cover her ears to block the sound.
Chapter 4
Lance watched helplessly as the creature poked Night with one of its snake tails. Night uncovered her ears slowly and listened to it debate whether or not to kill her. Slowly she shifted to her wolf form while it was arguing with itself and tried to back away. The creature didn’t notice but its tails did. The snake heads struck at her simultaneously. Night dodged the first one and nearly got bit by the second. Both tails hit the ground hard and the creature screamed in pain.
“********… We need to get out of here…” she murmured.
She ran back to Lance. “Let’s get out of here while it’s trying to dig its tails out.” Lance nodded and they both ran full pelt towards the Academy.
Lance and Night were halfway there when they couldn’t smell the creature. Night stopped and looked back but it didn’t seem to be following. She whined, worried that the wildlife might never return. Lance nudged her and Night reluctantly turned back around. They walked back to the Academy in human form.
“That creature… It wants friends… but the animals are scared of it… It’s the only one of its race…” Night said softly.
Lance looked back at her with a worried expression on his face. “so that’s why you didn’t attack it.”
Night nodded. The thoughts of the creature were painful and disturbing. Mostly she saw it eating other animals in one of its memories. She shuddered when she got to the part where it ate a wolf. She shook her head and walked into the hallway of the Academy.
Lance stopped and scratched his head. “I have to report to Lady Mitsuru… I guess I’ll catch you later…” Night nodded and watched as he left.
Suddenly Night heard a snicker. “What do you want Emma?” she sighed.
Emma appeared in front of her with a smug smile on her face. “Aw, looks like Lance didn’t want to be with you today.” She sneered.
Night sighed and walked off. Emma snorted and tossed her hair over her shoulder. “Hmph… b***h…” and walked back toward her dorm.
Night had heard her but kept on walking. She was exhausted and just wanted some sleep.
Night was about to go back out to the courtyard after she was done with all of her classed when she noticed her mother’s scent close by. She followed the scent until she got to Lady Mitsuru’s office.
Before Night could knock, Lady Mitsuru opened the door. “Ah yes. I was about to call for you.” She said as she opened the door wider.
Night’s mom was sitting at one of the chairs when she turned around. She caught Night’s eye and quickly looked away. She could feel Night’s aura and realized that Night had become stronger, faster, and smarter. Night tried to wave to her mother but she didn’t take notice.
“So Mrs. Ookami, what was it that needed to be discussed now that Night’s here?” started Lady Mitsuru.
Night’s mother coughed. “Just call me May… And I was wondering how Night’s attitude was doing. I wanted to know if it has improved.”
Lady Mitsuru looked at Night but she was staring out the window with a sad look on her face. “I’m sorry May, but I’m slightly confused. What do you mean ‘has her attitude improved’?” she asked. “Night has been a good student since day one. This is the first time she has been called into my office.”
May laughed. “Night? A good student? That would be a miracle.” Night flinched. “The only reason why she’s here is because she would anger easily and would nearly kill her classmates. Her human classmates.”
Lady Mitsuru thought about what May said and looked at Night. She was clenching and unclenching her fists and breathing heavily. ‘Are you alright?’ Mitsuru asked Night telepathically.
‘No…. Mother needs to leave…. Her words…. They hurt…. The monster inside me wants free….’ She replied.
Lady Mitsuru smiled at May. “I’m sorry but you must leave.”
“What for?”
It seems you are disturbing the peace and tranquility of the Academy.”
Night’s mother, May, just gave her a funny look. “You’ve got to be joking… What exactly do you mean?”
Night stood up and growled. “You’re stupid…”
May looked over at her daughter, “Excuse me?”
“I said you’re stupid. You say all these things to make me look bad… You don’t know how I feel or who I really am.” Night said staring May down.
May shivered slightly and bared her fangs. “You best remember who you’re talking to.”
Night chuckled humorously. “Yeah… You may be the leader of the vampire community but you do not rule over me.” She replied coldly.
May hissed and stood up. Night kept her eyes on her mother and her eyes darkened to a dull blood red.
Lady Mitsuru placed a hand on Night’s shoulder. “I’m sorry Mrs. Ookami, but you need to leave now. You are to never return and if I found out that you were anywhere near Night or any of the students… Well let’s just say you’re not going to like me when I’m angry.”
May hissed and suddenly disappeared. Night unclenched her fists and looked at the ground. “She just pisses me off… to where I want to kill… That’s why I nearly killed those students at my old school.” She said softly.
Mitsuru nodded and lead Night out of the office and into the cafeteria. “Here, most of the wolf demons should be there about to go hunt. Let the leader know I said it was okay.”
Ngiht nodded and shifted to her wolf form. She padded towards the group and watched as several of them turned to look at her.
A brown wolf jumped down from one of the tables and padded up to her. She cast her eyes to the ground and submissively hung her head.
Th wolf sniffed her fur. “Who are you?”
Night looked straight ahead. “Night… Night Ookami.” She replied
The wolf nodded. “All right, follow me.”
The wolf padded through the wolves and Night followed close behind. A white wolf tried to n** at her tail and she rounded on him. She had lunged and knocked it to the ground, pinning it. “That was a bad idea on your part…” growled Night.
The wolf stared into her crimson eyes and quickly looked away. Night got off the wolf and resumed following the brown wolf. It had stopped to watch and it had amusement glittering in its eyes. The brown wolf lead Night to a large gray wolf who was talking to a smaller, slender, gray wolf.
The brown wolf bowed its head. “Sorry to disturb you Kan… but Night Ookami wishes to speak with you.”
Kan looked at the brown wolf. “Thank you Riki… You may go.”
Riki nodded and left Night and Kan alone.
“So, tell me Night. Why are you here?” asked Kan
Night got up from bowing and looked Kan straight in the eye. “Lady Mitsuru said for me to hunt with you and your wolves.” She replied bluntly.
Kan stared at her, admiring the way she held herself among the other wolves; Proud but wary. “Of course. But they are not my wolves. True, I am the leader, but they joined of their own accord.”
Night nodded. “All right… That white wolf… the one with green eyes… What is it’s name?” she asked.
Kan thought for a minute. “We have many wolves but only one that is white with green eyes. We tend to call him Snow but his real name is Shin…” Kan replied.
Night nodded. “Thank you. But I should let you know… you might not find as much prey…” With that she padded away and back towards the other wolves.
Shin watched her as she moved wearily among the other wolves. He grinned when she snapped at a wolf that had nipped at her hind legs. He frowned slightly when Night positioned herself away from the group but close enough so she wasn’t left behind.
Night knew that Shin was watching her. The wolf she snapped at looked like a red wolf and it kept it’s back toward her. Night snorted and laid down on the ground with her head on her paws.
Shin got up and padded up to her. Night opened one crimson eye and looked at him. She closed her eye. “Go away. I don’t need anymore problems.”
Shin sat down. “I’m not here to give you problems… I was only curious as to why you seperated yourself from the other wolves.”
Night opened her eye again. “What’s it to you?”
Shin shrugged. “Nothing really. I can tell you are different.” He replied.
“I separate myself from them because I can sense distrust, malice, hate, and many other negative feelings in their minds. Me being an outsider can do that.” Night replied darkly.
Shin nodded. “I understand. I was an outsider here for a while and still am. Only vary rarely do they treat me the way they are treating you now.”
Night opened her other eye and sat up. Riki came up and Night nodded. Riki then left again, leaving Shin mildly confused. “What was that about?” he asked.
Night got up and started to pad towards the group of wolves. “Kan wants to see both me and you.” She replied.
Shin nodded, still confused, and followed her through the throng of wolves. They arrived in front of Kan and Night patiently waited for Kan to finish talking to Riki.
When Kan was done he turned to Shin. “So… it seems that you were able to make Night as comfortable as can be.”
Shin nodded and shrank away from him a bit. “Yes sir…”
Kan nodded and turned to Night. “So you told me that there might not be much prey. What do you mean?”
Night looked away. “A creature that resembles a sphynx and a basalisk is killing all the animals. Prey mostly….” She replied.
Shin stared at her in shock while Kan nodded. “I see… Did you see such a creature?”
“Yes… but I couldn’t kill it… It’s the last of it’s kind.” She replied.
Kan thought about it for a minute. “All right then… We will avoid the creature and still hunt… If we cannot find anything… something has to be done with the creature.” He replied.
Night nodded, before following Kan out into the forest.
As suspected, they were only able to hunt down two deer and about four rabbits. The rabbits were a good find but the fact that the sphinx/basilisk was still out there killing most of the prey in the forest. Dropping the two rabbits that hung from her jaws down, Shin looked at her with concern. Night would only shake her head before deciding to leave the hunting party and go back to her dorm. While she was out she had managed to feed on a measly squirrel but despite it's small size, she should be able to keep herself calm until the next feeding time. Nodding her thanks to Kan, she split off the group and switched back to her human form. Blood still on her chin from the rabbits, she noticed Emma and Lance together, but from the looks of things, Lance was not happy. Not wanting to eavesdrop, she quickly made her way down the hall.
Reaching the door, Night let herself in and immediately noticed that Ninie wasn't there, not that it bother the vampire wolf demon, she plopped herself on the bed, plush wrapped her arms, and drifted off into sleep.
