Mary went to a movie that was scary
Jumped, screamed, and laughed
It’s a good thing life’s not like a movie
Or so she thought
As she slept alone in her bed that night
Something shadowed crossed over
Quiet killer stalking through her nightmares
Standing over her sleeping head
Be afraid of the dark
He’s there
Waiting
Now he’s come for you
Mary awoke from crimson colored dreams
Cold sweating in fright
In the corner of her eye there was something
An illusion cast in smoke
Then she looked at her pillow shredded
Lightning flashed and blood was on her walls
Something evil was smiling darkly
Power out, phone dead, she was totally alone
Be afraid of the dark
He’s there
Waiting
Now he’s come for you
Mary grabs the gun from under her bed
She’ll be damned if she’ll go easy
Pounding heart blood pounding in her brain and
To him intoxicating is the smell
She sprints for the door
Mary’s sure that she’ll make it
As he shifts in the night she catches sight
Up swings the gun and four shots ring out
All perfect hits to his chest and head
But he isn’t dead
From some occult nightmare he hisses and laughs
As blood oozes out of his wounds
Mortified, shocked she turns and heads for escape
But dizzy she trips and falls to the floor
She puts her hand down to lift up from the ground
But something wet and sticky is there
His blades are bloody as they jut from his hands
Thin pains grow from her chest and her side
As his putrid cackle seeps past his jagged teeth
She realizes that she never had a chance
This isn’t a movie, this monster’s for real
This chase was all just for sport
She looks sees entrails and blood following behind
While she ran the wound opened all the more
She had been dead before she ever awoke
He gorges himself as she screams and she chokes
Mary’s slashed and bloodied nightgown is all they’ll ever find
Be afraid of the dark
He’s there
Waiting
Now he’s come for you
Monsters do exist
Monsters do exist
Monsters do exist
Goodnight
