Well, guess what-- I'm bored. This isn't exactly what you'd call a very incredible feat. So, in lieu of my usual go at the Net, I've decided to do something else a bit more...well, not really constructive, but hopefully fun.
I've decided I'll review a couple of movies.
So far, I've seen two sci-fi/fantasies, one animation, and one sci-fi/horror all in the past week or so. That's a lot of movies for me, actually. In fact, that's probably a lot of movies for just about anyone. So, the movies in order: AVATAR, Terminator Salvation, The Princess and the Frog, and Cloverfield.
AVATAR (James Cameron):
Plot and Content: A-
Visuals: A++
Imagination and Creativity: A++
Avatar was a witty movie. I liked the imagination and work that went into it, as well as most of the cast, including the Alien-slaying Sigourney Weaver who played in Holes, the Alien movies, and various other films. Here in this movie, we meet Jake Sully, ex-Marine, arriving on the planet Pandora, a dangerous world where anything could go wrong, from the path you walk to the air you breath.
This movie had a little bit of everything in it. It had romance (sad to say), it had comedy, and it had suspense. There wasn't so much horror as some would've expected, but hey, it wasn't half-bad.
The visuals on this movie were amazing. They did it in three-d and it really did make you reel like you were on Pandora. In fact, the biology of the planet was so diverse, you wouldn't have thought that some geek in a computer room came up with the designs for a lot of the creatures, though there were only three that I remember very well.
The plot for the movie was given an A- because, being my father's daughter, it had some liberal overtones. It was vaguely reminiscent of the Native American Act back in the 1830s as well as the Iraqi Invasion and some other things going on at the current time. However, the plot and content was finely crafted, and I can say they did a good job on it. Seeing as this movie started going into creation before the Iraqi Invasion, perhaps this wasn't targeted at the war so much as I thought it was.
The imagination and ingenuity going into this move was extensive. I thought it was top-notch actually, from the plants, to the whirler lizards, to the giant Inaks and the glowing flora as you walk around at night. Also, the methods in making this movie are highly revolutionary, though I won't get into that here seeing as its pretty technical, and I'd bore you to death anyways. The effort going into making the Na'Vi were fantastic, as well as the language used and the translation, making it feel pretty real.
Overall it was a good movie. However, it does have a downside. This movie is nearly three hours long. You will defintely want to bring with you a blanket, some soda, a large bag of popcorn, and take a bathroom break. You may also need to work off some seat flubber afterwards, as you will feel pretty worn out from the movie. All in all, a great movie to watch.
TERMINATOR SALVATION:
Plot and Content: Rating Pending
Visuals: B+
Imagination and Creativity: C+
Okay, this wasn't the best movie ever. I should've watched the other three movies first to get the plot, but I think even if I had, I would still be lost. Terminator Salvation left me hanging off of my seat, but it didn't grab me as much as it could've.
First off, the plot wasn't all that bad. The same guy who did Jake Sully in AVATAR(Sam Worthington: Australian) played Marcus Wright, a man on death row about to be given a second change by Cybergene, a company who wants his body after he dies from lethal injection for some mysterious reason later shown in the film. The plot threw me for a loop for a little bit, but I picked it up pretty fast. The content of the movie wasn't too bad either, though it could've done with some better panic on the extras' part. I don't want to rate it as of now, seeing as I still want to see the other three movies. Afterwards, I'll be able to say something about the plot of the movie.
The visuals for this movie were okay. I didn't really like them, but they were good enough to pass off as the real thing, though in some casesit was entirely debatable. The robots for most of the mobvie were good, and the explosions were okay, but that was mainly it, sad to say. There were some cool parts, but not a lot made me think 'whoa, how did they even manage to do that?'
And then, creativity. I don't know how long the production took for this movie, but it went off as a sort of spin off for the Terminator movies. Quite honestly, the plot was so predictable, even I saw the big surprise at the end of it. For creativity, I gave it a C because it was pretty much half-assed.
The other half of this will be up shortly. I'm having iffuculty with my screen, and so I need to do some work with the computer to get it fixed.
Leave comments on any of these movies if you wish. I will consider reading them later. ^^
