The Hurt Locker

Spoiler Warning! Full synopsis below

Rarely a movie like this pops up in Hollywood. Directed by Kathryn Bigelow, this movie is set in Iraq, 2004. The film begins with US-army unit Bravo Company disarming a bomb, suspiciously covered by bags. The bomb disposer of the company is killed when remote detonator held by a Iraqi butcher was gone unnoticed. Sergeant William James replaces the dead disposer and starts his 40 day mission in the company. The film shows the horrors, tense moments and powerful fear of a terrible thing called war. There are 5 missions shown in the film.
William's first day is when Bravo Company is called for a suspicious bomb buried in Baghdad street. He encounters a suicide bomber that he successfully manages him to surrender. Here he is shown calm and controlled. Later, he finds eight bombs attached to one detonator that he beautifully disarms. Few days later, UN building is evacuated due to bomb threat. There is an illegally parked car with unusually heavy load in the trunk. The trunk contains several bombs, intended to blow up by another insurgent, but he is subdued. Now it's up to Will to disarm the bombs. After many failed attempts and constant requests by his Company to abandon the car and remote-detonate it, he does disarm the bombs.
Next is set in a desert where the company meets a British undercover company. When they meet, Al-Queda insurgents hiding in a remote building starts sniping the soldiers. With two British solders killed, the companies hold their position for almost whole day, managing to kill all but one insurgents, and decide to call the area safe.
Almost two weeks later, the group is called to a run-down building that resulted in some gun-fire exchanges. The company arrives when the battle ends indecisively. They do enter the building, armed and ready, but finds it recently abandoned. There, they find a dead young boy with a bomb sewn up inside him. Will orders rest of his company out the building and he is shown crying uncontrollably at the pitiful sight. He forcefully disarms the bomb, but does not allow the building to be demolished and carries the dead boy's body out. Later in the base, he is shown again, crying and questioning the true meaning of war itself...
A few days left until the end of the mission, Bravo Company is called again to investigate a suicide bomb. William suspect the bombing not suicide, but a remote detonate and the insurgents still around. The Company splits in three and sets off to investigate, but one is heavily wounded after being hit in the head by the insurgents and carried off. Luckily two others hear his scream and come to rescue him successfully.
On the last day the company finds an Iraqi man, forcefully strapped to a time bomb to become a suicide bomber. A translator reveals that the man is an innocent man, with family of four and a wife. The man tearfully begs the US-army to disarm the bomb. Will risks his own life by going up there by him even though there're only two minutes left. The bomb is strapped too strongly to the man to be cut off and disarmed. Will has no choice but to abandon the man quickly not to get himself killed...
Will does manage to return to America, safe with his family, but finds, even with the horrors of war, he is the one needed in Iraq to save the soldier and the Iraqis
The film ends with Will in a new Company, 365 days left of the mission
