~Veil Three~ First Letter
Dearest sister: In taking this letter I am assured that you have left the home of our father and have gone on to greater and better things than I could have achieved. All my life I have seen you grow as a small, innocent flower. I know that you will head for the imperial palace, and it is my impression they will not fully turn away one so young and alone. I know that by this at least I have given you all that I am able to provide. You will bloom further and better there than by my hands. Through much thought I have realized that you will gain an education better than any I can teach you, a life better than what I can give you, and perhaps a hope of becoming a better person then I have been. I can tell you that it is not hard to live on another’s work. But hard as it is I have cajoled you to leave this place, not only through the intents of guiding you to another light, but also because the necessities of keeping a family together do not exist near here. In these past years you know that our father was arrested, but I had never told you that it was for stealing off of the honest labors of another man’s lands. Our small territories could never hold enough for many people, and this has not changed. I am ashamed to tell you that I have followed in our father’s footsteps in order to maintain the household we cherished. I know full well the consequences of these actions and feel that the best way to preserve our family’s honor is to leave you out of the business altogether. I know that in this way you will not also fall victim to the deeds that have taken these past generations past honor into shame. Sister, I hope that you can make for yourself a beautiful life and future. May the best of luck befall you on your journeys. With Much Care, Your Brother, Jonathon
