Hatching The Plan
I had a pretty fitful sleep that night. Who wouldn't after everything that's happened? Plus, that cot wasn't what I'd call the image of comfort. So, seeing as I wasn't going to sleep anymore, I got up pretty early that morning. Everybody else was still sleeping, that is everyone except Dante. He was sitting on the couch, hunched over, and he was spinning his sword on the floor by its tip, and he was staring right at me. I tried to ignore him, but everybody knows it's hard to ignore someone when you can feel their eyes digging into you.
Just then, must stomach growled, loud. I hadn't realized, but I probably hadn't eaten in a few days. Just then, a voice spoke. "......There's Poptarts in the cupboard over there....." It was Dante. He must've heard my stomach. Huh, I thought after last night for sure he wouldn't want to talk to me....Well, instructing where to find the poptarts isn't really a conversation, is it? I walked over to the cupboard and pulled out the box. I pulled one out and munched it down. I ate slower than I expected I would if I was really as hungry as I was. I left the second one out for when Delila woke up. (Because poptarts always come in those wrappers of two.) I looked to the Nero and Delila who were still sleeping. Nero was sprawled on his back on a small couch, his demonic arm hung over the back of it while his human hand lay on his stomach, moving up and down as he steadily breathed. Delila was on another cot, laying on her side, letting one hand dangle off the edge. Dante then got up and went into the back room. Who knows what he was doing back there, but he didn't come out for the rest of the time I was there.
I wondered if I should wake up Delila. For one, I wanted to get home as soon as possible, so I wanted to scope out our situation, have a little stake out or something. The other thing was if we left after Dante came back out of the room, I'd have to deal with the awkward goodbyes. I decided I'd leave while nobody was looking, it'd be a lot easier on everybody. So I gently picked Delila up and put her on my back so as not to wake her. I carried her to the door and stopped for a second. Then I whispered "Goodbye, Dante....." and with that, I quietly pushed opened the doors, and left Devil May Cry. Leaping away across the rooftops while pink rays of early morning began to break through the darkness of night.
I brought the poptart along with me. Couldn't forget Delila's breakfast. She woke up a few minutes after we reached her house. We were hiding on a roof a few buildings down, as not to be spotted. Delila rubbed her eyes sleepily. "Huh, what? What are we doing here so early? Weren't we going to stay and chat before we left?" Delila said as she yawned. "No, and besides, we need to thoroughly check out what type of security they've got around the house." I responded quickly. I didn't want to be on the subject of Dante, not for one minute. Just then, something occurred to me. "Delila, I think you'd be able to go home and stop all of this. Listen, those guys were after me right? But you were caught in the crossfire and kidnapped as well. But since you're an innocent by-standard, they broke the law for imprisoning you. So you can threaten to sue them or something, then they'd have to get rid of the security around your house!" I couldn't believe I didn't think of that before! Delila thought for a second, then replied "But wasn't I an 'accomplice' of yours or something? They arrested me because they believed I was working with you somehow." I forgot about that....What do we do know? I thought for a long time before I came up with another plan. "I have an even better plan. You just walk right in!" I said with a smile. She looked a little confused. "What the heck do you mean? I couldn't just waltz right in there! They're looking for us!" she noted. I grinned. "But then there's the Mom factor! If you walk in there all crying and everything, tell her what happened like 'Mom! I was so scared! Mom!!' she's be all like 'Oh my sweet little girl! I'm so glad you're ok!...THEY DID WHAT?! That's it! I'm gonna make sure I sue every one of you and that you're all fired!!' it's as simple as that Delila!" She thought again for a second. "Wow, that is a good idea. I never thought it'd be so simple! Way to go crying like a little baby! Woot!" Delila said with excitement.
"Hey! What happened?! I woke up and you guys were gone! It took me forever to track you guys down!" A voice from behind us scared us. We turned around and saw it was Nero. "Oh, ya...We thought we head out early to scope out the situation. But we've got a plan ready." I replied. Then Delila tugged on my sleeve. "Kimiko, wait! I just realized! I'm going in there by myself, right? Then how am I going to reach you when they've finally left?!" I completely forgot about that. They could come back when I didn't know. But then Nero said something. "I have an idea. Kimiko, you can stay with me until then. Delila, you'll call me. We'll have to use a code in case they're tapping the phone lines. You'll call me Kyle. You'll ask how I'm doing, and I'll ask if we're 'still up for the movie friday'. That'll be code for if they're gone, and if you say 'I can't make it' that means they're still there, and if you say 'sure, can't wait' then the cost is clear for Kimiko to go home." he said. Wow, that was actually a pretty good idea. "Ok, sounds like a plan to me." Delila responded, so then Nero wrote down his number and handed it to Delila. "Ok, time for you to head down there Delila." she nodded, and swallowed nervously. Then she got up and went down the fire escape on the side of the building and started toward her house as Nero and I stood watching on the roof, hoping that the plan would work.
