Chapter 2: The birth of Namu
The rain drenched Nick's funeral. Sophie sobbed into Peter's chest while Peter cried silently into Sophie's hair. Nick's parents seemed the worst off than anyone else. Both have completely broken down. Everyone that Nick had ever known was there. Even the paramedics that were there during his last few moments alive were there. Slowly but surely, the mourners walked back home miserably, until only the paramedics were left.
The redhead of the two suddenly looked up and studied his surroundings. "Is anyone here?" he whispered. The one with blue hair just sighed. "No, Crimson." he muttered. "Will you just relax?" Crimson turned back to glare at his companion. "Well, excuse me for being afraid of getting caught." he sneered, pulling a shovel out of the duffel bag at his feet. Tossing it into his companion's open hand, he sighed, "Just help me out, Aqua." Aqua sighed irritably, but didn't question it.
It took them a matter of a few hours to dig up the grave. Eventually, Crimson's shovel hit something hard. "Got it!" he shouted. The time it took for them to scrape the excess dirt off the coffin and lug it up to the surface was long enough that when they finished, it was almost midnight. Aqua kneeled in front of the lock with his hand on his mouth. "Hmm?" he murmured. "How can we open this? It's not like we can directly ask the gravekeeper for the-" He was interrupted by Crimson striking the lock with the shovel, knocking it right off. "So rough." Aqua huffed bitterly.
Crimson and Aqua put all their strength into lifting the coffin lid up. The immediate rush of air sent the decaying stench straight at them. "Phew!" Crimson grimaced, waving his hand in front of his face. "The kid's already startin' to rot." They looked Nick over. It's only been a few weeks since Nick died, but it seemed that death started to take its toll on him already. His skin took on that 'corpse' gray tone but his face still looked so serene, as if he just fell into a deep, peaceful sleep. "Well, it's too late to save his arms." Crimson sighed.
It was true. Nick's arms were full of holes and the bone was starting to be exposed. "Well, he's gonna be outfitted with cyberkinetic hardware, anyway." Aqua shrugged. "Alrighty then." Crimson nodded, pulling a pair of scissors out of the duffel bag. They both lifted Nick's corpse out of the coffin and propped him up on his feet. "Alright, you and I both know that you've got a weak stomach." Crimson said to his companion. "So, you may wanna turn around." Aqua knew this too, but felt slightly embarassed that Crimson even brought it up. "Ya know something? I-" Aqua began to protest, until interrupted by Crimson giving him a gesture, telling him to turn around.
With a sigh of frustration, Aqua obeyed. When Aqua turned around, Crimson smirked and stuck the scissors in Nick's side. The mere sound of the incison being cut into Nick's side made Aqua sick to his stomach. Crimson sighed and looked up in time to see Aqua gag. "Deep breath, stare at the horizon." Crimson said to help him. "Drown out the thought." Aqua sighed after a while. "Thanks." he grumbled, still slightly embarassed.
"Ok, here's the really gross part." Crimson warned Aqua. Aqua turned around, staring at the road in an attempt to drown out the mere thought. Crimson grabbed a plastic glove from the duffel bag and pulled it on. Keeping the incision wide open, Crimson emptied Nick's bones and organs back into the coffin. "Ok, done." Crimson smirked to Aqua, pulling off the dirtied glove and tossing that into the coffin as well. Lifting Nick's skin onto his shoulder, he smirked, "Let's get him to the witch." Aqua nodded and followed him.
Meanwhile, in that bright red building that is Southern Labratorys, Kizena, the Witch of the South, was pacing in her office. "Where're Crimson and Aqua?" she groaned. "They're late, as usual." Her personal maid, Mayella, stood nearby. "Don't worry, your lordship." she said with a possibly neverending smile. "Maybe they were caught up." Kizena exchanged glances between the door and something in the corner. It was a iron skeleton, kneeling, waiting to be given skin. Kizena sighed frustratively, "I'll give them 5 sec-" "WE'RE BACK!" Crimson's voice shouted from the doorway. "Finally." Kizena huffed. "Well we got it at least." Aqua nodded. Crimson tossed Nick's skin into Kizena's hand. Kizena held him up to view, her irritated expression changing dramaticlly. "Oh, poor, poor child." she said concernedly. "What happened to him?" "Run over by a drunk wagon driver." Crimson said honestly, earning a whack in the arm from Aqua. Kizena didn't say anymore and turned her attention to the iron skeleton. Placing her hands behind her back, she commanded it, "J-14 Proccessing Module. Do you respond?" The iron skeleton opened its bright orange eyes and nodded. "Yes, your lordship." it said with a monotonous tone of voice.
"Stand." Kizena commanded. The iron skeleton began to twitch and push itself onto it's feet. With some assistance from Kizena, the iron skeleton fit itself into Nick's skin. Mayella handed Kizena a spool of thread and a needle and Kizena stitched up the incision. "There we go." Kizena said with a smile towards the new Nick: J-14. Lightly tapping J-14's forehead, Kizena asked, "J-14, you still awake?" J-14 had his eyes closed when his skin was being stiched on. He opened his eyes and glanced around the room rather innocently. "Oops." Kizena said, placing a hand to her mouth. "I might have accidenly bumped the 'memory reset' button." J-14 glanced back towards Kizena and innocently tilted his head. "Hello?" he said, hoping to be reminded what was going on.
"Well, Happy Birthday." Kizena told him with a smile. J-14 just came across a new phrase. Lightly touching his lower lip with a finger (it was metal from his new arms), he processed this statement. "Don't even bother processing that." Kizena said with a flick of the wrist. "I'm just saying 'Welcome'!" Kizena placed a hand on J-14's bare shoulder (DON'T ASK! >3< wink and smiled to him. "I hope that your stay here is really enjoyable. Hopefully you can make some friends. Including el capitano here." Kizena smirked, pointing to herself. "So, with that, Crimson and Aqua'll show you to your room." Crimson smirked at J-14, placing his arm around J-14's shoulder while Aqua gave him a gentle smile, lightly holding his new metal hand. J-14 smiled. He was alive...and he had a home.
