Throughout the day, I could not stop thinking about the box and that strange man. I also had a question in my head, why would that box suddenly appear the night after the doctor taught here...and that mysterious "lucky pen", whats up with that? "Maybe it is a coincidence." I kept on thinking in my head. Then I asked another question to myself...or is it?
6th period came by in a flash. Everything just seemed to whiz by that day. I rushed myself to science eager to see if the "Doctor" would be there again. I was the first one in the room, I opened the door so fast I almost fell in,"You seem excited for science! " I heard that British accent, it was him!
"You again!" I exclaimed.
"Yeah...me...again." he answered confused.
"I'm sorry," I began as I walked slowly to my chair,"Interesting day, hey have you heard about the big blue box that was found here yesterday? Pretty weird, huh?" I was expecting to see some kind of clue that he is a part of it.
"Yeah, I know !" he exclaimed back,"How can that box get in that small closet like that. That's brilliant!"
"Yeah...brilliant." I was expecting some other response, maybe I was wrong, maybe he's one of those ordinary teachers,"Yeah, this morning I saw this man who seemed to know what that box was." I told him while taking out my books for this class. He stood up from his chair with complete concern and walked up to the board to write what word we were going to learn about today. The cap popped off and I instantly smelled the ink of the pen, "Really? Who might that be?" He asked. He stepped away from the board and went back to the seat.
"Um...I don't know. He had an old jacket, looked like those World War 1 or 2 jackets that the soldiers wore those days. You know him?"
The doctor put his hands behind his head and leaned back slightly,"Nope," he answered,"Doesn't ring a bell."
Soon, there were more students walking in. I looked up on the board where he wrote the lesson for today, black holes. Ooooooh, love those things! So the lesson went by smoothly, except the fact that Shonay was being her ordinary smart allicy thing she does. I can tell the doctor really didn't like her that much. Katie was too busy drooling all over herself while staring at him...I think he's scared of her.
Soon enough the bell rang for 7th period. Band...music...my type of class. Everybody else hurried to get out of there, but I stayed behind,"So doctor, are you going to be here tomorrow?" I asked.
He sighed while walking towards the door, I followed him, "I don't know, only time will tell." He held the door open for me to walk out and reached for the light switches,"Where is Mrs. Boele anyway?" I asked him. He closed the door than spun around on his heels,"I don't know," he started as he rocked slightly back and forth on his heels,"Vacation I think." He started walking away but I followed him. "Mrs. Boele... on vacation? That's not like her." I told him. It's true, she wasn't really a vacation type of person. The doctor had his hands in his jacket pocket. It was a long, tan one,"I don't know, maybe she has a meeting."
"Then why are you subsituting here of all places?"
"Cerridwen, why do you ask so many questions. I'm not saying it's a bad thing, it is a good thing, it's just most of these questions are sort of not all that important."
We kept on walking, I wasn't really paying attention to where we were going. "Well...doctor, actually I don't think they are that pointless, I think it's a bit weird that all this started happening AFTER you got here." He stopped walking and looked down at me,"Look, I think it's great that you are trying to help solve the mystery of this box, but even if I did have to do with anything, I'd tell you to forget it."
"How can I forget about something like this?" I asked.
"Look..." he started as he continued walking,"It's dangerous to go wondering into something you don't fully understand." I stopped in my tracks, "So, you are saying you are a part of it!" I said. He stopped again and turned around, "I did not say that. Now are we going to stand here and play 20 questions or get to our next class?"
"Our next class?" I asked as we continued walking.
"Yep. I'm subbing for two of your classes now."
We walked the rest of the way in silence. I had so many questions that I wanted answers to. Right now though, I should think about band.
