Wow....It's been a really long time since I've entered anything here...Meh, it's all at my discretion anyways. So onwards!
I just really need to say something that's really getting to me today, might as well do it here.
We watched Platoon in English class today, and my god did it ever get to me. The religous allegories alone are enough to send you realing. The sights you see, the acts those solders commit, and the corpses you're forced to see give you this sick feeling in the pit of your stomache. And I'm not one of those people that get all squeemish around blood or anything, it's nothing like that. What makes it so disturbing is the fact that the director was in the Vietnam War and this entire movie was based on his expiriences. That's what makes this movie so horrible...The fact that it's true.
But there is something that gives you a shred of hope at the very end of this eye - opening film. A quote said by Chris Taylor...."We are obligated to find the goodness, and make something of this life..." The theme of the movie is finally something uplifting, something that gives light to the hope that there might still be a shred of hunamity left in the world; if you're willing to search for it.
Wow...Did I sound like I was giving a movie review or what???
It felt good to write that though...
It really is a monumental movie though. If you think you have a higher understanding of films and the true messages they're trying to say then I suggest this movie to you. It tells you a lot about the nature of man.....In fact it actually reminds me of The Lord Of The Flies.....
