Chapter: 9
Have you ever had a moment where you were so shocked and angry, you weren’t? Just confused and wanting a repeat of what the offender said. Or you just wanted to scream but you lost your breath? Well, that wasn’t one of those moments. “You lied to us ” I screamed. “We-well– not exactly...” He stammered. “What kind of answer is that?” Light boiled out of my Mirror, reacting to my emotions. The tower gave another violent shake, causing Aayoko to lose his balance. “Ahh–“ he yelped moments before he tumbled head over heels onto the roof. I laughed. My anger subsided. “Are you ok?” I asked reluctantly. “Ugh...yeah,” He mumbled. Aayoko stood up and leveled himself. “Ahem, the demon, is trying to bring down the tower For some reason it knows that you’re a threat–“ I gave a smug smile. “That’s the plan...” He stared back at me in confusion, then after a moment he smiled and nodded. We were about to drop the tower on this... Malleus. Aayoko leapt over to me and turned around, facing the tower. I pointed my Mirror at the tower anticipating what would happen. We would get the demon or we’d just create a huge mass and the demon would probably be pissed off and kill us. “You ready?” Asked Aayoko. I nodded. “Ok, on the count of three...One...” The image of pure light filled my mind, a huge bright nimbus of light surrounded my Mirror in my thought. “...Two...” I held the image in my mind felling the heat of the Mirror, like a aura. I took a stride forward. “Three ” I twisted my wrist up and allowed the thought to take form. At the same time Aayoko jump-stepped and spun around once, the tip of his Mirror-wand and electric blue color., causing a trail of sparks to follow it. I have to admit, it was very stylish. Arcs of blue and golden-white beams sped towards the top of the tower at full speed. The beams went straight through, bringing out dust and debris as it did, as if pulling a cork to a champagne bottle. The tower stood still for a moment, threatening to stay put. But with a crack and a shutter, the top half of the tower crumbled and began falling. I couldn’t see the other side but I heard that the demon was caught in the rubble. Some of the stones landed thumping, like on flesh, and others just crashed on the stone street below. And just as it began it was over. Only a memory of the top half of the building was left. Aayoko smiled. I noticed that I was too. I couldn’t believe that we did it. I didn’t know that I’d do this but I began to laugh. It started off as a little chuckle turned into hearty chortle then ended in a wracking cough...I guess I overdid it. I gave my final look around from the top of the roof, then stumbled down walking on the conveniently fallen rocks and rubble. Aayoko carefully followed behind. The demon tore up the town leaving behind destruction leaving chaos behind. You might think that the people would be panicking but on the contrary, they were helping other up with hopeful expressions. I have to admit I was surprised. Walking around a few fallen fighters we arrived at the crime scene. A long shadowy arm stuck out of the rubble, its fingers twitching slightly. “Is it dead?” I asked. “I think so...” Answered Aayoko as he quietly studied it. I know now that Aayoko, was really scientific. I looked around. Where was Rixia? “Rixia ” I shouted. She left after the woman came. No response. I ran down the street looking to my right and left for her. She had to be somewhere. I soon arrived at Galin’s armory. My Mirror glowed hot in my hands as I scoured the road. The only thing I saw were people talking to each other and searching through the streets and wreckage for probably the same reason as I. For a moment I had an thought. It wasn’t a nice one, oh it was far from nice. “What if Rixia was lost in the rubble?” I whispered, not loud enough for a mouse to hear. I stared at the ground as a single tear formed in my eyes. “Auxion!” A voice called. I turned around to see Aayoko surrounded by a small group of talking people. He gave me a weak smile and I gave him an even weaker one that resembled a frown. I slowly walked over to him, ready to run away to look in the rocks. When I arrived, the adults stopped talking and looked at me. “Is this the child who decided that the demon would be smashed with the abandoned tower?” a woman asked. She was very...poofy looking. Her blue feather boa around her neck wiggled erratically every time she moved. “I believe he is,” A man with a monocle retorted. “Excuse me, but what is your name..?” He asked me. “Auxion. Auxion Tempis,” A voice answered. I cocked my head to the left to see Rixia walking over to us, not even four feet away. My mouth dropped open, to be promptly closed after a bug flew into it. I spat it out and ran to her. I hugged her tightly and buried my head into her shoulders. She was surprised but went along with it anyway. When I withdrew she was smiling at me. “Phew, you guys must be tired being heros and stuff.” She said jokingly, wiping off some of the caked on dust from her face. This time I smiled. “But I did get in a little action...” She trailed. A loud woman spoke up. “Oh– yes, your sister Riia saved a little boy,” “Her name is Rixia.” I said a little too sharply. She drew back and I blushed. “Rixia? You saved a little boy?” Aayoko asked. She nodded. “Yes, the demon was going to...devour the boy when...I shot 3 arrows at Malleus. He dropped him and I caught him.” She beamed. “Good job!” I said. “And now he’s with his mother. And– she paid me!” She finished. “How much..?” I asked. “Only a bag of gold coins,” She said reaching into her pocket. And there it was, a leather pouch jingling with coins. “This is great!” Exclaimed Aayoko. The group of socialites looked in our direction and smiled. “They are really praising us now,” He said grinning with pride. “They, can do that but I’m just glad that the demon’s dead.” I said, the relief resonating through my voice. I looked at the crushed arm, and it was still twitching. Surely it could be still now? Galin apparently went into his shop and now came out with a bottle of something that looked like champagne. “Victory for Astrum!” He shouted above the voices. A cry of approval came from the crowd. Galin shook up the bottle and positioned upwards. “Release!” He commanded. With a pop and a burst the contents of the bottle were released into the sky, spraying out a silver sparkling liquid over the faces of the Astrans. After a moment the liquid became snow with a diamond dust falling with it. “Oh...beautiful...” Rixia murmured staring up into the turquoise-green sky. “A sky-in-a-bottle!” Aayoko proclaimed. “Ah, so that’s what it is.” I said. I was wondering. Rixia smiled and almost so I couldn’t hear her she whispered: “..Victory...” Everyone was gleeful. Even a few Guardians smiled. We stopped the threat here and were going to be on our was soon enough. It worked out. Then gasps from the crowd stopped my daydreaming. The demon was rising back from under the tower. Before people could start fighting it again it suddenly burst up. It face was twisted as ever. It floated about five feet off of the ground, scanning the faces of everyone with it’s malevolent eyes. It gaze stopped as it reached me. It stared at me for the longest seconds in my life. You will be hunted down, Mirror bearer...And you will be killed....It said in my thoughts. I shivered. Then with a clap of it’s claws, it spun and dived into the earth below without as much as a sound.
