land of the Undead
Hello, my name is Miyako. This is the story of my friend Riku and I, and our adventures in the land of the undead.
Almost sister-in-law

The rest of the walk home was quiet. Neither of us had anything to say. It was almost noon when we had reached my house. He just walk me to my front door. He only said one thing before he left.

"I need to ask you something. But, I want you to get some sleep first. I'll be back tomorrow at noon. We can talk then." After that he was gone. Walking away from my house and back to his own.

I was too confused to think. I wanted to know what he was going to ask me. I knew that I wouldn't learn what his question was until he asked me. Right now, all I needed was some fresh air to clear my head. I walked upstairs to my bedroom. Opening the glass doors that led to the balcony, I let the warm summer breeze hit my face.

There was something moving in the tree next to the balcony. I thought it looked like a bird. A raven. I stepped forward to get a better look. Then I saw them. The raven's eyes were exactly like Hikaru's.

I tried to run, but my feet wouldn't move. I was frozen in place with fear. I couldn't feel any part of my body. Then, suddenly, my muscles were able to move again. I tried turning and running from the bird, toward the safety of my room.

In a fraction of a second, the glass doors had shut and locked themselves right in front of my face. The bird had become a man, standing next to me on the balcony. I couldn't run, I could barely breathe. I tried, with all the power I had inside me, to scream for help. All that came out was something like a squeal or squeak.

He covered my mouth to stop any noise from escaping. He stepped next to me, keeping his hand over my mouth. I tried to wiggle away from him, but it was no use. Then, I noticed more movement from the tree behind Hikaru.

A graceful, black sparrow was perched on the same branch that Hikaru had been on. The sparrow flew from the branch. In mid-air, the bird started changing, like Hikaru had done. The girl's feet hit the balcony with barely a sound.

She looked like Hikaru: light skin and beautiful features. Her straight, black hair fell to her waist. She had a very petite frame. All of her movements were those of a trained predator. Her movements were soft and fluid, yet strong and controlled. She moved closer to me, looking like an animal stalking its prey.

"Look who we have here, little brother." the girl said with her eyes glued to mine.

"Yes, Suzume, this is the one I was telling you about." He smiled at me with an evil grin that spread across his whole face. He cautiously removed his hand from my mouth, waiting for another scream. He stepped aside and let the girl, Suzume, take his place.

"So," she looked at me closely, examining my face, "you're the girl who stole Riku from me." At first I thought she was joking, but, by the look I saw on her face, I knew she was serious. Riku had never mentioned her to me before.

"What are you talking about? I never stole Riku from anybody." My voice was sounded confident and strong, despite the immense fear developing inside me. She looked at me with disgust, as if she couldn't believe what I was saying.

"You stole him from me. I loved him, and now he has forgotten me. And it's all your fault." she said the words slowly, deliberately. Her voice had gone from beautiful and song-like, to words filled with hatred and acid.

Her hand moved to my throat. The long, delicate fingers blocking my windpipe. I couldn't breathe. I was feeling light-headed. Stars danced in my vision. As the world went black around me, I heard Suzume's voice, clear as glass, and just as sharp."Stay away from Riku. Never talk to him again. Or else."
