Yesterday wasn't the worst day ever, but I guess I just made the best of it. It actually wasn't a bad day after that. Perhaps if you take into account that I was trying to teach an extremely flexible person arm breaks, then you could say I had a few embarrassments.

What happened during akijutsu was that the girl I was teaching had really flexible wrists and elbows. You can imagine where this is going. I put her in each hold correctly, but she kept saying she wasn't feeling the tension in her joints. I kept thinking it was odd, so I started applying more and more pressure to the point where I was actually scared that her tendons would snap. Still nothing. I had to call Roy to show me what I thought I was doing wrong. I wasn't doing anything wrong, she was just really flexible. So I was getting really embarrassed for no reason, because it wasn't my fault. Well strike that, it was my fault for not feeling her out more than I had, because I can usually find the breaking points. So that's my mistake.

She was a tough learner too, kept mixing up body movements. Eventually we got to the point where she could avoid the choke and grab one of the two attacking hands for a few different breaks, but then she kept twisting the arm the wrong way. This happens to every student, so I shouldn't feel like I'm instructing it poorly I guess. She eventually got to where she can do the i kajo and ni kajo from an aggressive choke, but then we had trouble with the back up breaks in case you panic and do the first two wrong. razz Sometimes I forget what it was like being a white belt, because it was such a long time ago when I made these mistakes.

This is one reason why I like the inclusion of akijutsu in the Bushidokan curriculum, because it both provides icing on the cake, and you can never really truly screw up as long as you remember you can always turn one failed break into another break instantly. Or if you just want to be a d**k, go straight from one successful break to another to completely tear whatever was left in the limb. You get a really gross visual of the tendons slinking up the arm when you do that... >.<;;;

I also applied to get my butt out of school for a while before going for an even higher degree (hahaha!). So now I still have the problem of being over qualified for most jobs, but now I'm also qualified for higher jobs that I don't really care to do at the moment... razz But that's upon safe completion of the semester. I'd have done this a couple semesters ago, but s**t happened* and I'm just now getting over it. So I'm glad I'm taking steps to advance finally. Feels scary, but good at the same time.

But yeah, that's what yesterday was like.

*To be fair, I brought some of it on myself, because I was a bit more of a wuss than I should have been during that relationship.
