Chapter 5
The Beginning
Ugh…I couldn’t sleep at all last night! All I could hear is the sound of dogs howling, and my stomach growling. The mark on my shoulder was making me mad also. It was a cold and dark day out today, plus it was raining and I had to walk to school. “Great,” I began thinking “I have to walk in this crap?” I strapped on my rain jacket and headed out the door. School was a mile away and I still had to walk!
Suddenly a little yellow cooper car came up and splashed the water that was on the side of the road on me with his grill. Now I was all soak and wet. “Hey!” someone called “Are you okay?” I turned around and saw Connor in his Chevy Silverado. I ignored him and made my way to school. He parked his truck beside me. “Summer! Do you want a ride?” he asked. I turned to him and glared. “Don’t be like that! Come on! Your soaked!” he recalled.
I looked down at my clothes, sighed, and then accepted. But I wasn’t going to talk to him. “Look Summer,” Connor snapped, “I don’t like it that you’re ignoring me. You’re such a baby, and to think I thought you’d be tougher than me one day but I was wrong. You’re just a spoiled brat who gets everything she wants.” I kept my pose; my teeth were grinding up against each other angrily. I was not a brat; I just don’t associate with werewolves. I got out of the car and headed to my homeroom
Pow! In an instant I was against the brick wall with Connor pinning my shoulders. “Meet me after school in the forest, and I’ll explain everything. If you refuse, I’m going to kill you with no hesitation at all.” He said irritated. The bell rang for class, so Connor gets off me and starts walking away. “Ouch. That really hurt.” I pondered. I headed off to homeroom then the real torture began, starting with my friends at lunch.
When I got to the table Kassie, Cleo, and Alora glared at me. “What happened?” I asked. “You know.” Alora began. I was so confused. That triggered Cleo’s anger. “WHY WERE YOU WITH CONNOR THIS MORNING?” she yelled. My eyes popped out, they saw me??? “I thought you didn’t like him Summer.” Kassie said enraged. “Look, I don’t like Connor, he just pinned me to the wall and said I’d better start being nicer to him or he’ll make me be expelled.” I lied. I can’t tell my friends that I’m werewolf they’ll freak if I told them.
The three of them smirked. “That’s our Connor,” Alora smirked. I sighed, and they actually believed me? Ha! “But be warned,” Kassie began, “If you ever try to steal Connor, we won’t be your friends anymore.” I nodded my head and began eating the Mac and Cheese on my tray. My friends continued to talk about how awesome Connor is, and how cute he is. I just sat quietly on the wooden table.
When the bell finally rang for class I walked as if I was an old lady. Taking my time, and being slow are my two specialties. I sat down in my seat, and waited for class to start. “Alright class,” Ms. Rae began, “I have some announcements to tell you. First, the state wide writing assessment is next Thursday not Friday. Secondly, we’ll be learning about the 1500’s and how the citizens of that time believed in Werewolves and Vampires.” I banged my head quietly on the desk over and over again. “Why does this happen to me?” I said in rhythm of the banging. Connor giggled and smirked. This is probably amusing to him.
After school, as planned by Connor, I met him in the forest. I wasn’t really exited or anything, I just wanted this to be over with. Across my way I saw Connor sitting on a log looking down at the ground with his hands together. “Uh hi.” I said. He looked up and smiled. “Wow you came.” He whispered. He gestured me over to the log so I could sit by him. I walked over and sat down. “What is this about?” I questioned. He looked at the tree in front of us and sighed. “Well I was going to tell you the story of the Vampires and Werewolves that Ms. Rae was talking about, but then again you don’t like being a werewolf so what’s the point.” He said calmly. “Excuse me?” I shouted. He shrugged. “If you can not care if you’re a werewolf or not, then I shouldn’t care about telling you the story.” He said with a smirk. I was outraged by what I was hearing. “Fine!! Tell the story! I’ll listen!” I said. He nodded and his smirk went wider.
He sat up straight and looked at me square in the eyes. “Do not tell anyone else about this, the humans can never know,” He said, “and if you do then I’d just have to kill you.” I gulped but I shook my head. “All right. It all started in the mid 15th century when all of the humans, vampires, and werewolves lived separate lives. Only the humans didn’t know that there was many vampires and werewolves in their own villages,” He began the story, “As you probably heard that there was a war between werewolves, vampires, and the humans in that time right? That was true, but many say that the werewolves started it. They’re wrong. The vampires actually started taking advantage of the humans but creeping into their houses and drinking their blood.”
I shivered. I knew what it felt like to have someone drink my blood. “During the war the werewolf ancestor named Fargo devised a plan to end the war peacefully and not cause any suffering, but on the down side it required human sacrifices. The human soul was greater than our kind and the vampires because the humans have more kindness, and spirit to keep the soul alive. So our great ancestor called for only 3 human souls. When 3 warriors from the village arrived they were known as Zeus, Ares, and Apollo. You’ve probably heard of the names from Greek Mythology.
I nodded. Dang this was getting interesting. “They believed it was their duty to save the world from danger. But before the power could arise and for the warriors to sacrifice themselves, the vampires ganged up on them and started fighting one another for the right of power. The vampires were currently winning, that’s why they wanted to keep. But when the 3 warriors failed to defend themselves it was only my ancestor, and 3 vampire warriors left. Our ancestor had no choice but to call the wolf spirits to help him win, but there’s a catch. My ancestor had to give up his soul to protect the lives of others. So when he called the spirits to guide him he took his soul, the 3 vampire warriors, and the rest of the vampire race to the depths of the devils chamber where they will sleep for all eternity. Finally my ancestor saved the human kind, and returned peace to the world.” He finished.
I was so stunned. I’ve never heard of the vampire and werewolf war before. Heck, I didn’t even know it was real. “Also, this is a myth but it’s said that two of the werewolf warriors in the mid future are destined to fall in love, but they never said who or what era.” Connor said. Was he trying to say something? “That…that was unbelievable Connor. Now I’m actually glad I came here.” I commented.
Connor nodded his head in approval. “See. I am a good story teller.” He said smiling. “Ok,” I began, “The real question is…How does relate to us?” Connor stared up at me, and looked straight in my eyes. “We have to be apart of this war,” he started explaining, “I’m not sure when its going to happened, but its soon. The vampires already attacked Rome, and they’re headed toward the southeast to the city Campobasso. They’re getting more restless with the days Summer. Its our job to set things right again.” I started giggling. The city Campobasso sounded like a Mexican name, but that was just my opinion. Connor looked at me seriously.
I sighed. This saving the world crap is getting on my nerves. I’m not Superman or the Incredible Hulk; I’m just a teenage girl trying to get passed high school. “What do we have to do in the mean time Mr.Wolf?” I joked. Connor rolled his eyes. “Your not a brat,” he stated, “Your just a mere child. Anyway, to answer your question we have to keep a look out for any Vampires around here.” I was confused a little bit. “Why would any vampires ever come to a dirty city like Omaha, Nebraska for? What do we have that’s so important?” I questioned. “Don’t you know your history? The Durham Westren Heritage museum down town has been known for ghosts’ lerking around in the 1900’s from when the railroad was being bulit they're were alot of deaths. The vampires could use they’re evil spirts to have their power increase.” He said.
I narrowed my eyes. “How come you know so much about that museum?” I asked. “I listen,” he stated, “Plus I do way more studying than you do in a life time.” My anger increased rapidly. “What is that suppose to mean? I’m stupid?” I yelled. Connor shrugged. “Possibly.” He simply said. I took a deep breath in then I started walking home. “I’m done listening to you Connor,” I said, “I’ll see you tomorrow. That is if you ever wake up tomorrow.” Connor chuckled evilly behind me. He was such a child.
