These characters are probably more fanfic type characters, if anyone actually had a section for PD James fanfiction. I love her, and she's my idol, so, naturally, I decided to pick up where her latest book left off and create a future to my liking : ]
It might help if you're familiar with the Adam Dalgliesh series of crime/mystery novels by PD James (an amazingly gifted British grandma : ]).
Here are some of the characters:
Names: Padric "Paddy" or "Piers" Tarrant and Ophelia "Lia" Tarrant-Miskin
Current Ages: 22 and 20
Appearance: The siblings are almost twins, despite being separated by two years. They're both blond and brown-eyed, though Paddy is a few inches taller. Some people call him Piers in homage to the likeness he bears his father. Lia is truly more her mother, in features and temperment.
The Story Thus Far: Paddy and Lia are the son and daughter of Piers Tarrant and Kate Miskin, both working for the Metropolitan Police Department in London. The siblings grew up in a good-sized flat on the Thames, and later went off to university (Paddy to Glasgow in Scotland, Lia to Cambridge). When Lia was 16 and her older brother was away at college, their father had an affair, reverting to his usual ways, and he and Kate went into a trial separation. They reconciled just before Lia went off to Cambridge, but the girl has yet to forgive her father for his daliances. Paddy was disgusted, for a time, but figures if Mum took him back, it can't all be bad. In Lia's second year at Cambridge, Piers strayed yet again, and it seemed his marriage would end. Lia officially changed her last name to "Tarrant-Miskin" because she didn't believe her father deserved all the credit for her existance.
Name: Russom "Russ" Dalgliesh
Current Age: 23
Appearance: Russ inherited his father's blue eyes and his mother's blond hair, though his leans closer to the golden bronze (almost topaz) side.
The Story Thus Far: Russ is the son of Commander Adam Dalgliesh of the Met and his wife, Emma Lavenham, a Lecturer in English at Cambridge. Russ had a solid upbringing in Cambridge, commuting to London often to see the sights, and he quickly bonded with the Tarrant siblings, as children with parents in the same occupation often will. Russ attended Oxford, where he found on-again, off-again girlfriend, Ivy Finchley, a gorgeous girl with raven hair and violet eyes. He took a year off after he graduated to "see the world," and dropped off the map for that time, sending occassional e-mails to his parents and Ivy, and always finding the time to write to Lia. Eventually, he returned to London and moved into Ivy's flat, beginning his police training as she worked as an engineer in the City. When Ivy (along with her older sisters, Thyme and Ashe) went into the country to see her ailing grandfather, Russ asked Lia to attend a charity gala with him. Lia, having loved Russ since she was about six, became the "other woman" of her relationship, and though it helped her realize every story has two sides to it, she still draws no parallels between her story and her father's. Russ loves her, she feels, whereas her father never loved the women he slept with. The whole tangled web has yet to be sorted out.
