EGGWATCH Day 1
Dad decided that Pearl had to go back today. Her wound is now a giant scab. He told me if things didn't go well, she could come back. I'd rather have her well and at the coop than ill and at home. Besides, the chicken crap was starting to pile up. She did pretty well in the car.
When we got out to the coop, there was about one inch of snow on the ground. When I went inside, Charlie immediately tried to get out. Luckily, She didn't, but it took some maneuvering on my part. There wasn't much water when I went in, so I put Pearl in the little coop and filled up the water bowls. Burby was really battered up, so I put him in with Pearl. He wasn't happy about that.
When I sat down, Sophie came over first, but didn't stay long. Then Stella came over, and we sat for quite a while. I miss spending time with her and Marcie. Shortly after Stella jumped on my lap, Skunk came over too. I pet them both for a while, then Fudgie wanted some attention. So I had THREE hens on my lap, all wanting to be petted. Stella left first, followed by Fudgie and Skunk. With no competition, Marcie decided to get in her old spot under my arm with her head over my shoulder. I scratched her behind her earlobe until she fell asleep.
When I went to get eggs, Iris was sitting on two, and one was freshly laid. I knew that this was probably one of my last chances to get eggs from my Ammies, so I decided to incubate them. This leads to an-
EGGWATCH! !
I put four Amerucana eggs and one brown egg in. Right now I'm fiddling with the temperature, trying to get it to 100 degrees. Mom just rolled her eyes when she saw the incubator, but told me I could try anyways.
