Chapter: 4
“What the–“ I started. The arrow hadn’t gone into my head. It went through my hair and cracked on a branch. Rixia’s hand shot out of the thick, grabbed my shirt and pulled down. “Woah ” I said as some of the branches snapped and I fell head first. I landed roughly on a wide flat branch covered with soft leaves. A second arrow whistled by. Rixia leaned against the tree trunk in her short sleeved pajama shirt. Her hair was covered with twigs. I skidded up to her and threw my hands around her. Rixia pushed me away.
“I’m sorry, but we have to leave. It’s not safe,” She said in an urgent voice. Almost in response to what she just said, the branches in the other direction bounced with foot steps. Rixia clutched my hand and ran down the branch, it steadily getting thinner. “Hey ” I protested. However it was too late. The branch snapped and we plummeted down a section of the forest which happened to have little branches scratching us. The wind blew up my nose, tickling it as we sped downwards. In a few seconds it would be all over I clenched my teeth at the thought. Rixia still held my hand tight, when we suddenly slowed down. I peered up and I couldn’t believe my eyes. Rixia had sprouted wings– angel wings They were of the purest white with just the hint of purple on the tips. She smiled down at me. “You didn’t think that we’d fall to our death’s, did you?” She asked. “Yes...I did.” I replied sheepishly. We drifted down slowly, as if we were hanging on to some big umbrella, just like in the movies. “What did you say when I was standing up there. Because I swear you said “gist dowin”“ I wondered. “I said, ‘get down’ you dork ” She said, flapping her wings again. It must’ve been hard work keeping us both from falling. I ignored the remark and looked down the ground came up to us faster than I thought. Then, we hit it hard. “Yuck ” I said plopping into a gloppy mud puddle. Rixia landed softly in a section of moss. She helped me up and looked forward. Some sort of half built path lay ahead. “Now what?” I asked. “We will find help to get a way home. Starting here,” When the words reached my ears, they filled me with hope. Nonetheless, I knew it wasn’t going to be that easy
