Seimian could not tell how long she stood there unmoving, tears silently spilling down her face, staring at the point in the gloom where Trent had disappeared.
What? What just happened? Our races are at war? Was he trying to say... that we are over? I fear this war will only bring pain
She sighed a shuddering breath and wiped the tears away.
And Kyto, I must enlist also to protect him. Mother would never forgive me for letting him die in such a way.
Seimian struggled with the thribbing rift in her heart, finally managing to push it to the back of her mind and pull her jumbled priorities forward.
First stop- the Recruiter's office
An exhausted but somewhat satisfied Seimian collapsed into her bed three days later. For the past few days, she had spent every waking moment studying, training, and sparing with Kyto. They went to the fiend tomorrow- after the day-long anxious ache in her stomach, she could hardly wait. The young elf drifted into a heavy sleep, permeated by voices and terrible visions of the pain that was to come.
Kyto turned to Seimian. "Seimian, over here! Come on! If we don't move soon, we'll get ambushed by that cowardly band of humans that we lost a few days ago. We've only been in this a month, hurry up!"
Seimian rolled her eyes and was behind him in a flash with the blund edge of her knife atainst his throat.
"Hahaha, you underestimate me far too much, brother. You are also extreemly loud for a Dark Elf, please calm down, or you will alert an enemy to our location. I killed the humans when you weren't looking. Even for humans, they moved very fast and had the human equilivant of a tracker among them and I didn't think it was worth the risk."
She smiled a little and withdrew her blade, pushing ahead of him.
"The next battlefield is only about another hour from here, so we should keep going."
"Argh!"
Kyto's anguished cry echoed in the night's stillness. Seimian whipped aorund to see Kyto facing a group of about six figures, indiscernable by race or sex in the gloom. An elf's arrow was sticking out of his arm. Adreneline pumped through her system as she ran at them, a cry of rage echoing from her throat as daggers flashed into her hands. They advanced in a semi-circle, as anxious for battle as she was. Seimian flitted and twirled in the air from opponent to opponent, dancing in a circle around Kyto as he attempted to continue fighting. Together, they managed to fell four of their attackers. A muffled moan came to her from somewhere behind her. She turned and saw Kyto laying on the ground, a three pronged dagger protruding from his throat and dying. She knelt beside him and began to potions down his throat, exhausting her supply.
"Kyto, kyto, come on, come on, Kyto, no...no..."
Kyto
