Thorn couldn't breath, but he knew he had to keep running.
"Where would they go!?" He cried, suddenly realizing he had o idea where they were going.
"The lake. " Mimim said calmly. "I can smell them."
"So... they're not... that... far." Thorn huffed, getting slower as they ran. The clearing became visible about 50 yards away.
Thorn paused, looking around frantically. He grabbed the branch of a fallen tree, put his foot on the trunk, and pulled. The thick branch broke off with a loud snap, splinters scattering across the ground. He began to run again, not stopping to catch his breath. Mimim followed carelessly, seeming to enjoy the run. They slowed.
But Thorn sped up at the clearing. He began to run when he heard noise. He broke into a sprint when he saw them. He didn't know what was happening.
He suddenly heard a loud crack. He didn't know what it was, but it made him grin. It made him feel so happy that he forgot how tired he was and laughed. The laugh echoed through the suddenly eerie silence.
The voice broke him from his reverie.
"THORN."
His head turned.
He didn't have time to react.
He was flying.
Thorn screamed, slamming backwards against the trunk of a tree. He felt like his heart stopped; but it skipped a beat and thumped hard and fast against his chest. Sweat broke out against his skin.
A figure stood, not 20 feet away.
"Dark, no." Thorn gasped, suddenly in the air again. His mouth was warm, his lips wet. He coughed and saw everything clearly.
His cough splattered blood across Dark's face; the blood matched the color of her eyes.
Eon stared from behind her, a shocked expression on his face. Mimim hugged a tree, not too far away. "Please. Dark. Put him down." Eon broke the silence, his voice shaky. She didn't move.
Now Thorn realized he was held, about two feet off the ground - Dark holding his shirt tightly in one fist. Her breath came out in a growl, pointed fangs exposed even through her closed mouth.
